Re: Post Your Craigslist Finds

Went and saw this on Friday: https://seattle.craigslist.org/tac/cto/5792786459.html

Some observations not in the post:
-A 454 was dropped into it around 2001 (vs. the stock 402)
-Camper model
-Brakes are 'mushy' to put it nicely
-Interior is beat up, missing both interior door panels, etc
-Shifting into anything is a bit of a guessing game, and about as accurate as a broom stick in a bucket of broken glass
-After a quick test ride, a puddle of green liquid under the truck (assuming transmission fluid)
-When opening the glove box, a rats nest of collapsed ducts were behind the dash
-A majority of the gauges don't work
-Very little overall rust with only two small spots where it went through

If it was the original engine and/or I didn't get the feeling I was going to spend a majority of my time undo-ing the 'fixes', I would have brought it home.

I believe they've lowered the price to $1400, and the nephew is who to call as the email route doesn't really work all that well.

I would have taken that truck home if it me looking at it. Can't beat it at 1400 bucks..

I was very much on the fence.

After driving it around awhile, and the giant puddle of fluids underneath - I didn't want it to be my first automotive project. I need something a little less rough around the trans/engine as I start this journey.

I'm sure that I could have parted it out and made more than $1400, but that's not the goal (nor do I have the space for that).

Re: Post Your Craigslist Finds

Another possible platform to launch my automotive tinkering/restoration...

Not sure on the 3-speed manual on the floor in 71.

But for $1,200, the surface rust may be the only real problem!

I wish I were closer. That looks like a great buy and a nice start to a cool truck!

Re: Post Your Craigslist Finds

Would it have a 12 bolt with that engine combo?
