brake drum adjusting slots ?

I got new drums, they don't have the slot to reach in and adjust the starwheel.
i looked real close there is no knock out plug that i can see.
I guess if i want slots i will have to make them.
would that make the drums out of balance?

Do you have them on the backing plate
