235 valve adjustment?
I'm having a hard time finding the specs on a hot or cold valve adjustment for my 58 chevy 235. Can anyone help?

Re: 235 valve adjustment?
This link is to a valve adjustment tool that you can set the valves with the engine running with on the engines that have the adjustment on the end of the rocker. You use your own socket to fit the nut on the rocker. There are several brands of similar ones floating around and a bit of a search on Ebay might find a better deal. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Snap-On-Vint...355417&vxp=mtr

Re: 235 valve adjustment?
i never could get my head around trying to adjust a mechanical lifter setup when the engine was running. How would you get a decent gap setting with a valve jumping around?

Re: 235 valve adjustment?
With solid tappet setup I believe intake is .006" and exhaust is .013 ". And I believe it is a hot setting. However you can still start cold with those two numbers and once the engine warms up then you can adjust them to spec at operating temperature. Ive been able to slip the feeler gauge in while it's running and adjust it but it's not easy. Hope that helps.

Re: 235 valve adjustment?
I have never understood the process of pounding a precision tool like a feeler gauge between 2 parts in a valve assembly.
