Suburban tailgate arms and supports

I think I already know the answer to this question, but I'm going to ask anyway. Regarding the tailgate/liftgate support arms - were they already in place when the truck went through the paint booth at the factory?
How many of you have a Suburban that appears to have factory original interior paint, and show remnants of the same color all over the arms?
I've seen several examples like this (including my own), but it LOOKS so sloppy like a careless repaint, that I must ask to confirm.
Member Perro posted the pic below in his WTB thread over in the parts section, which shows the overspray/paint im talking about.

Looks like someone sprayed everything including the arms. Mine looked like that at one time, but I have stripped them back to the original chrome plating. Now all I need is a new latch for the left side of the lower gate.

Has anybody ever seen electric tailgate and window openers? I converted my barn door panel to clamshell doors and was thinking electric would be cool. I can't be the first to think of this

Re: Suburban tailgate arms and supports

Do you mean openers to lower the gate and raise the top door? I saw a newer Chevy pickup at a show here in September where the guy had an opener on his tailgate and he could stop the tailgate where he wanted it, or have it open all the way. There's a lot of weight on our upper and lower doors though so it would have to be heavy duty opener.
If you do it, post pics and let us know if and how it works
Good luck
