16" Factory Wheels?
Thinking of going back to the factory look of the steel wheels and dog dish caps on my 78 K20 but I don't want the hassle of 16.5 tires. Anyone know of a replacement steel wheel in 16" that will work with the factory caps?

Re: 16" Factory Wheels?
GM made 16" rims forever. My 76 came with them. I think they were optional in 76 though. I always run dog dish hubcaps on all of my trucks. I like the old simple style over flash on my work trucks. GM 16" steelies should be easy to find.

Re: 16" Factory Wheels?
Your K20 should have 8 lug wheels - 16" rims for it should be plentiful.

Re: 16" Factory Wheels?
16" were factory on light duty 3/4 tons, I had an 87 with them. Also Ferd and Dudge wheels of the era used the same bolt pattern with a larger center hole, and available in wider sizes too. Somewhere on here is a list of the years that fit (everyone eventually changed patterns). IIRC there is a Ferd heavy van wheel that is quite a bit wider. I know there is a thread in here somewhere, just can't remember if it's in squares, drivetrain, or 67-72's. Search is your friend!

Re: 16" Factory Wheels?
What about a 16" 6 lug steel rim to accept hubcaps? Were they ever available?

Re: 16" Factory Wheels?
I dream of those wheels but I don't believe they were made. I don't think the newer 16" 6 lug wheels have the right back space and probably won't accept our hub caps.

Re: 16" Factory Wheels?
No, the GM 6 lugs were all 15". There 'were' 16" 6 lugs hubcap capable wheels on the heavy halfs in the 69-72's but I don't think they fit over disc brakes. I expect that there are aftermarket versions though.

Re: 16" Factory Wheels?
Just a note, the truck pictured has 16.5x8.25 wheels. There are also 16.5x9.75 factory wheels out there. Going with factory 16" rims means you are stuck with the skinny 6.5 width, unless you go custom.

Re: 16" Factory Wheels?
Positive about that? Not saying you are wrong, just really curious. They had the 16x5 C10 wheels optional at one point (my old '79 had them) but they are uncommon. I've always wondered if there was a 6 lug version to go along with those.

Re: 16" Factory Wheels?
wheel vintiques makes a 16x10 wheel that takes the hubcap. they run about $100 apiece. I need to start a thread and see how many people would buy them in 17" and maybe we could get them to make them. I need the 17" to clear big brakes but want the hubcap look.
