No-Rosion?

Does anyone use a product like No-Rosion in their cooling system, or does a 60-40 mix of Prestone and distilled water do the job well enough?

Re: No-Rosion?

I use Prestone brand antifreeze & distilled water 50/50 in my rides. No additives, and no issues - and it gets over 100* often during the summer here, but no where near as cold as what you deal with up there. One's a big block (AL heads), one's a small block (iron heads), and one is a 5.3 LM7 (AL heads). I do run an anode in the BB though.

Re: No-Rosion?

Prestone and distilled as well. Ive seen firsthand what our tap water can do to a new heater core. Makes me not want to drink it anymore. Distilled water is cheap insurance. An anode might be a good idea too.

Re: No-Rosion?

Agreed. Antifreeze + distilled water is all that's needed. Antifreeze contains corrosion inhibitors. 60/40 recommended in northern climates. No more, no less. A stronger antifreeze mixture hurts more than helps since the water is needed to carry away the heat more efficiently. Antifreeze alone cannot do that and works with water. But a 60/40 mix is better insurance. A frozen block is bad. A cracked block is a boat anchor.

That being said, No-Rosion is a decent product. It wasn't exactly developed for car radiator systems. But works there. I prefer to change and flush the cooling system every 3-5 years anyways, and that seems to keep cooling systems happy over the long term. The biggest enemy is neglect no matter what you use. The No-Rosion site also recommends this change interval even with their product. Once place it does excel is in systems that spend lots of time sitting (ie: museum vehicles, etc).
