going to scrap yard, parts check

going this week to look at a few lq4/4l80 and ly6/6l90

If i find a good deal I need to get the:
Engine/trans
full harness
ECM
Pedal
TAC module/harness

anything else to look for? Most of these are in wrecked vehicles so just making sure my list is right.

thanks
Matt

Underhood fuse panel, E-Fans, all engine accessories, grab some 2010+ Camaro manifolds if they have them

Whether or not you get the air intake, make sure to get the MAF. Might as well grab the cruise control module too if you end up with DBC. They are fairly easy to integrate.

Re: going to scrap yard, parts check

Found an LY6/4L80 with 80K miles on it. cut harness no accessories for $2400
Will add A/C Alt, PS for $30 a piece

will still need harness, pedal, TAC, etc.

how does that price sound? Can i just order a custom harness without the original?

I agree, that's high. They are going cheaper than that for full swap nothing cut. You could probably buy an entire wrecked truck for that, take what you want, and part/scrap the rest to recoup some of the money.

Where should I be looking?

What's the going rate for a lower mile LY6 4l80?

i bought a 5.3 with PCM, wiring harness and all accessories (starter, alternator, waterpump, etc) for $700. Purchased a 4L80e for $300. both off local craiglists.

Re: going to scrap yard, parts check

Imo $2400 for an ly6 with trans is a really good deal. Ly6 is a step up from the lq9, has almost 400hp on regular gas, and you get L92 heads. It's a vvt engine though if that matters to you.

Ly6 with a cam swap can put down 450+. I think there were different versions though, van and truck, and van may be a little lower hp. Nothing a tune can't fix.

Re: going to scrap yard, parts check

I'm with Tork the ly6 is a lot better than a 5.3L and at $2400 I'd buy it. I have the same combo and just bought a new harness for it from PSI.

Re: going to scrap yard, parts check

Forgot to add this but on the back of the ly6 intake is the port for the brake booster that can be removed or plugged. My combo came out of a van that had hydo-boost so the port had a removable plug in it so now I'm on the hunt for the vacuum boost adaptor that goes into the port on the intake. So you will want to try and get what will match your brake system now if you can.

Re: going to scrap yard, parts check

Found an LY6 out of a 3500 express van. Anybody know if the pedal / TAC module is the same as the truck? Also it has all the accessories. I'm hoping the van configuration is the same as the truck?

Thanks!

The 2008 will have a 4l80e behind it... the truck that year has a 6L90E behind it.... the gen4 engines do dont take a tac module...so get the electric gas pedal wire wire plug for it.
