OE LS Air Cleaner & Tube Options

I'm looking into options on air cleaners and am set on using an OE takeoff but after some ebay browsing it's clear that there are several different designs. Has anyone investigated which ones fit best and/or look cleanest?

Yeah I saw his, it's from a cadillac and going over to the driver side with some aftermarket ducting -- I'm def. going to use his ideas for getting cold air into the intake but what I'm really after is using the stock truck air box with the best looking/fitting stock air tube.

So far I think I've found that some silverados have a pretty inconspicuous tube while suburban/tahoes have an addition resonator that shoots off to the driver side.

Why do you want to go with the stock tube exactly? (cost, or stock appearance?)
If its the appearance, you can get intakes from stock-looking plastics pretty reasonably priced.

Almost all of the truck intakes either had a goofy flat section over the fan, a big de-resonator, or the awkward scrunchy bit at the end. Something like the H3A intake could be made streamlined if you cut the wart off of it and patched the hole.

Cost and performance; I like the flat filter design and they actually have quite good flow. They are also reliable and I'll know I can always get replacement parts for them. Also I'd rather pay $50 for a complete setup than $250 :/

I'd definitely do that for mockup and it sure looks nice but that's really probably the worst placement in terms of sucking in hot air; it's not only right next to the hot engine but also right in front of the hot air blowing through the radiator.

Off topic, what radiator is that?

I use the factory Silverado ones, they seem to fit pretty good to me and they're damn near free!

Yeah that looks really nice! I think I can find one on ebay for like $50 if I'm patient, from what I've seen -- probably worth the premium vs slogging through the mud at a yard this time of year and if I'm lucky I'll get the MAF with it. Can you give me some details on how you mounted the box?

Edit: just realized that your thread is one that I've read like 3 times and am using as a reference -- I just found your mounting details at [1]. I actually asked you recently in that thread about your A/C details -- I'm going to do the same eventually but use a Trailblazer compressor and motor mounts. I still don't understand much about the A/C system overall and how the components will work together but A/C is low priority for me now and I figure I can learn about that after my swap is complete.

The air box i got from a 1991 Lincoln. cost 10.00 new filter 6.00 made a bracket and mounted it to the core support. Re mounted my horn lower on core support.It gets fresh air from louvers in core support. Hope that helps

Yes, i have a coupling right off the intake to the MAF, then the filter is coupled directly to it.

My DD gauges show intake temps. It is supposed to be high 60s here tomorrow. I'll see what my temps are after driving around for awhile. Does anyone else have intake temp readings that has a intake mounted on the fender?

That's cool, I'd be interested to know this as well. Have you ever noticed you MAF being dirty? I've seen people complain about oiled & aftermarket filters junking up their MAF sensor but have never used one.

It's a K&N, only a 1000 miles on it but zero issues whatsoever.

I'm using the stock intake setup from the 2000 Silverado my engine came from. Was thinking of putting in a K+N intake tube, supposed to replace the stock intake tube/resonator setup. But going turbo later this year so no point now.

I used a KN aftermarket kit for 2000-06 trucks it was a fast way to complete the air intake setup.

Its loud under the hood especially with a load or towing up grades. Dont get me wrong its fun at first.....grows old fast

I have had the MAF throw a code once in the forst 2500 miles. I cleared it and the code has not returned.

I will be swapping the air filter assemble to a stock air box to help keep the engine noise to a.minimum gm has there reasons for a ugly intake syatem.

Mine is a true cold air setup. I have a 4" hole cut into the radiator support for the intake.
I would like a straight pipe on mine though but it seems to flow fine like it is.
