Re: One hot 292
Sorry to learn of Mr Porterfield's passing. I would have liked to know him and talk about 292s. His Turbo L6, bored to .060-over, would've been a 301" - 5.0 L mill. Truly an artist.
If I had that engine, I'd put it in a '67 K/10 Suburban -- to replace the burned out 454.

That 292 is the definition of cool! I'd love to have that in my truck.

Re: One hot 292
That's one sweet 6. Anybody with half a brain would be happy to pop the hood and show that off.
Would be pretty neat too chuck one if those stand alone fuel injection systems on it.

Re: One hot 292
I had the 292 in my 65 and it had torque, a ton of it. What a bullet proof engine and naturally balanced as well.

Re: One hot 292
That engine is all about torque, the force that gets you moving, quickly. My dream vehicle is a 37 or 38 Chevy two door sedan with a 292, suitably modified for both power and exhaust note.
Too bad the owner passed before he could finish and enjoy his project.

Re: One hot 292
That is one sweet motor. I always thought it would be neat to build a rowdy 292.

Re: One hot 292
Man, that really hits you in the old mortality box. I mean something has to happen to all your stuff when you go, but the notion of my wife or kids having to help other people paw through all my stuff and make offers on it... shudder.
And I can see all my NOS stuff being scored cheap and then resold on eBay, creating massive profits and angry threads on these forums about what people will pay for old NOS stuff!

You come into this world naked and you leave the same way ...
Be it an old tattered wallet with $10 in it or a mansion with a garage full of muscle cars you can't take it with you .you only rent material objects along the way ... ![]() you may love your old truck but once your gone your wives new boyfriend may like a vintage Porsche more ..... |

Nah. My wife's new boyfriend likes BMWs.
Wait! What? I'm thinking that 292 needs to be in a '54 'vette. |

Just wonder why no power steering? Where would you put it? The manifolds occupy the space that a stock P/S pump would be. Might also limit access to the turbo, which may need fine-tuning. Maybe not required on a '50 half-ton pick up. We'll never know.
