1966 Standard trim question
On my GVW tag on the kick panel says STD in the trim block. I should not have one lick of trim on this thing should I? As it is I have the "custom" Cab rear cab corners and all of the holes down the sides of the fleet body to have all of the trim and the polished front grill. This was all done by a PO right? When I do a search on Google for standard trim on a 1966 the only pictures that come up have all of the molding. What does it say in the trim block if you had all of the trim from the factory?
Thank you |

Re: 1966 Standard trim question
Thanks for the link, it was a good read. But it doesn't mention anything about "Standard" trim. Was "Standard trim" "No trim" or was there trim that came on it as "standard." One would think that in the trim block it would say "none" or "N/A" kinda leads one to believe there was a level of standard trim.

Re: 1966 Standard trim question
Do you have this on the inside of the glove box?

Re: 1966 Standard trim question
Don't think the kick panel tag has anything to do with options added. Here's the specs on my build. Original owner was a big spender, went all out and got the deluxe heat : ) As you can see my truck is bare bones base model which would be "standard" and then you add to that with options as shown in the above post.

Re: 1966 Standard trim question
I believe the "STD" on the tag refers to paint. STD was normal factory colors, SPEC was special ordered colors, mainly fleet vehicles, such as schoolbus yellow or military. Exterior trim would be listed on the sticker in the glovebox, or the build sheet.

Re: 1966 Standard trim question
STD applies to interior specifically. Nothing to do with body paint or exterior side trim, bumper chrome, or anything. Standard meaning a vinyl seat and none of the goodies that came with the Z62 Custom Comfort option. Z62 would be stamped in that box on the trim tag if that option was ordered.

Re: 1966 Standard trim question
Okay thank you very much for the responses. I have the left over glue on the glove box door but unfortunately there is no paper left. That makes a lot of sense that it applied to the interior. I have lots of holes in the body that look very factory. Very cleanly punched and the original paint rolls into the holes where the trim would be. Just trying to determine whether I'm going back with trim or plain. Want to stick as close to factory as I can. Thank you again

Re: 1966 Standard trim question
Okay sounds great. When you take the seat apart for instance remove it from the cab, look underneath for a very old and important paper wedged between the seat springs, could tell you a lot.

Re: 1966 Standard trim question
Somebody removed that too. Probably still waded up in somebody's dresser as a reminder of their old truck they sold.

Side moldings were available on any fleetside 62-66, not just a Custom. B98 is the option code. If your truck was not a custom from the factory then those sail panels were most likely added later which is very popular to do. You could even order a true Custom without the side moldings but you still would have the Custom sail panels. Many different combinations were available.

"Custom Cab" is easily the most widely used term that never existed. There is no such thing, and never was. The confusion results from the fact that the vast majority of bling items were ordered together. That is, if a buyer liked chrome bumpers, he most likely also sprung for the side trim, windshield trim, etc. With this in mind, it's interesting to spot the unusual combinations that show up here and there. A couple examples are my own '66 Custom Camper which has all the fancy stuff, yet no side molding. Or conversely, my plane-jane painted bumper, single color '62 C20 with the fancy sides. Re: 1966 Standard trim question
I definitely have the wrong sail panels. The ones that I have are the ones with the bow tie at the bottom. If you Google search 1966 K10 you'll find my project. It is pretty bare bones but I've already finished patching up the floor. Came with everything but a motor and a friend is giving me a 250 for it.

Re: 1966 Standard trim question
Just did another thorough search under the seat and found this tag attached to a spring. Probably just info on the seat its self but at least it's something. Just in case the image doesn't come out too detailed it reads the following in a straight line, "1 4 62 NORWOOD 382 2092"

Re: 1966 Standard trim question
Like oem4me correctly stated, '66 trim levels were either STD standard or Z62 Custom Comfort. Z62 was an interior upgrade package. The Custom Appearance option ( aluminum grill and bright windshield molding) included Z62 automatically. All other exterior options, chrome bumper, chrome caps, side moldings could be ordered on any trim level, just like most all power assist options and drivetrain options. The Custom Camper option automatically came with many of the interior and exterior options. Wow, oem4me '62 and '66 C20's gots the look!

Factorystock - now you have me feeling like I missed something (not a new feeling, lol)... Where is this automatic combo listed? I can't find reference to it anywhere.

Re: 1966 Standard trim question
Every pickup with the Custom Appearance Z61 option that I have ever seen, also had the Custom Comfort Z62 option. I have seen many Z 62's without the Z61, but have never seen a Z61 without the Z62. Maybe I'm wrong, and you could order the Custom Appearance Z61 by itself on a standard trim truck?

Re: 1966 Standard trim question
You are absolutely right that this seems to be the case, I've just never seen documentation. Anybody (Jon) seen a FACTORY standard vinyl seat in a truck with stainless windshield trim, aluminum grill and cab sails?
