What's the Fastest/Easiest Way to Drain a Stock Gas Tank (62)?

Before I try and fire up the engine for the first time since assembly, I need to dump the old gas that is in my behind seat tank in my '62. What is the easiest and fastest way of doing that?

Thanks ahead of time!

Does it have to be completely empty? Two ways I can think of. Get an electric siphon pump or remove the seat, undo the fuel lines and bolts holding the tank and remove the tank and stand it on its side over a drain pan. That will get all of the old gas out.

I think I'll try to siphon it first. Thanks!

Take line off at fuel pump and put into a fuel can, should drain by itself,

Hmmm, already did that, and it hardly drained at all... maybe I already was out of gas (my fuel gauge was broken before I pulled the engine).

Lasher, you can take the tank to a radiator repair shop and have them steam clean it. If it's super varnished, put a couple handfulls of dice sized pea gravel in it with a quart to gallon amount of berryman's chemtool. Seal off all the holes and roll/shake the tank all around to loosen up and dissolve the varnish.

not really wanting to spend any money on it as i plan on buying underbed tank from lmc, but i need something for now to just see if motor is going to run and drive it on and off trailer. someone had told me to use a piece of chain to put in it and shake it. being the chain would be easy to get out wiirh magnet...

Thanks ahead of time!
How much faith do you have in the 2-part-mix, texture of modeling clay, gas tank sealer found in local parts houses? You figure out the rest--I wish not to be flamed for suggesting such. However, I used it for converting between 55 and 60 diesel GM's over to 350 Olds gasoline engines.

Even used it converting my personal, 1980 Chevy S-bed pickup diesel, to 350 Olds gas engine--and it had TWO fuel/gas tanks! (I still occasionally see--and talk to--the now elderly couple who bought it from me in 1987. They claim the only thing they've done to it is re-paint it.) Never knew one to leak, and it was well-known in a small town that I was converting/selling these vehicles; surely I would have been informed! But I DID follow the directions to a TEE. Plus, these vehicles had tanks on the OUTSIDE of the cabin.

NOW! Follow previous suggestion to remove the tank, stand on end, and pour it out. It is not at all a difficult task.

If that is your plan then bungy cord a gas can under the hood and run a rubber hose to the fuel pump. That will get it enough fuel to run and drive on and off the trailer. Why put time and effort into cleaning a gas tank if your not even going to use it. Just my thoughts.

It will work, that's how I got my truck. Runs fine. 3 gal tank, wired right next to the passenger upper control arm. Drilled a hole in the cap for the fuel line that goes to the pump.

The cheapest way is to take out the tank. put a chain inside and shake it around.
