Painless insallation
Hey y'all, here are a couple pics that I took today along with some info. The wiring kit isn't nearly as intimidating as it looks, most of the wires are three times longer than they need to be, making it look like there's a thousand wires in the box. Most people like to hide all of the wiring, I decided to put it all out in the open so everyone can see what a clean wiring job looks like. Of couse I now have to take twice as long so everything looks perfect. Here is a pic of the headlight section of wiring. It includes wiring for the headlights, parking lights, turn signals, side markers, horn, and electric cooling fan.

Everything under the dash is pre-wired with plugs. All you have to do is plug everything in!

Here's the fuse block, it uses modern fuses. The wires to the left are for electric windows, door locks, stereo and amp, electric seats, a/c, and basically everything else that you can imagine. Most of these wires won't get used but I will wrap them up and nicely tuck them under the dash incase I ever decide to upgrade my truck.
Also, you have to make the square hole bigger for the fuse block to fit through. Last edited by Randy70C-10; 04-22-2004 at 11:06 PM. |

One thing that I should mention is that the wire for the horn is grouped with the right side wiring. This didn't make much sense because the horn is on the left side, easy fix. Just clip the wire tie and move it to the left wire group (group that includes wire for the left turn signal).

I'm as inexperienced with wiring kits as they come and so far I haven't had any problems with anything i've hooked up with my painless kit. I would recomend buying it a month or 2 before you want to install it. I spent alot of nights just reading instructions over and over and installing it in my mind. It really helps out catching dumb mistakes

Lookin' good, Randy! Do you happen to have a pic of what you did to the firewall hole and the plug/receptacle that goes through there?
Thanks!

fatfords- You can't see much from the pic, but I cut 1/8 inch off the bottom and one side, and you have to grind a round spot in two corners (you can see this at the upper right of the hole) there's also one at the lower left. I have to do some touching up where I scratched up the paint.

Has anybody tried to use a wire harness from a late model vehicle? Like pull the fuss block and all. I wonder how many issues you would run into?
