Transfer case choice
What would be the best transfer case for a 1969-1972 k5 Blazer? Please give reasons for selections!

Rockwell 221, the Dana 20, and NP205 all came from the factory in a 69-72 Blazer/Jimmy. But IMO, the 205 is hands down best choice, as well as the factory equipped T-case in 90% of the first gen K5's.
But if my truck had a 221 I'd run it until it didn't work anymore. Same with the Dana 20. But if you have to buy one, once again, NP205 as it is the most common transfercase you will find for sale.

NP205.
They are hard to break... and they are Cheap out of the wrecking yard. I see them between $150 & $300 in my neck of the woods. Aftermarket support is great. You can change the seals yourself pretty easily, when you are changing the seals you can look at the bearings and make a decision to rebuild or not. I picked mine up for $150, had it rebuilt for $280 with new bearings and seals... I added the twin stick shifter for $220. Look at Advance Adapters for the set up you need, or go to the wrecking yard... or Ebay, I see adapters on their regularly. You might spend 100 bucks or 350 bucks for the adapter you need to attach to a th350, th400 or 700r4. Maybe more if you are hooking into a newer style transmission. You looking for one?

I know it is not you, but what the heck is the solution to the sideways pics? At first I thought I was seeing a TC suspended between rafters and I could not figure out how it was hanging there! Since not all pics post sideways (an observation on my part: I take most of my pics with an iPhone if that adds any insight to anyone and I have noticed they post sideways as well). Does anyone have a solution?
Sorry for the hijack! Love following your build (and agree on the NP 205-great unit and relatively inexpensive with great aftermarket support)-keep up the great work!!

haven't really studied this case as for after market adapters but have you seen a clocking ring as an option for this?

The older np205 cases are what is called a figure 8 bolt pattern. That is what mine is. To my knowledge there is no option adapter wise to clock this transfer case. The later models (mid/late 80s on one tons... don't quote me) came with a round pattern for the adapter. Similar to the Ford adapters. You can clock those in theory, but you would have to create some sort of custom cross member. Not sure how you would adapt your shift lever either, most likely a cable set up like on a doubler.

Off Road Design makes one. So does Northwest fab works. Honestly, that's a better question for the all knowing Google...
