Products from Inline Tube: what have you tried for Your K5?
Wondering what I'll do for new brake/fuel lines and am curious if anyone has tried the Inline Tube products (http://www.inlinetube.com) recently. I know some members had trouble with rear brake lines in the past. Curious what folks have tried and what did/didn't work well.
The 72k5 has some Siamesed fuel lines in the rear I doubt are reproduced and I may have these zinc plated.

I'm curious about this as well. Getting to that point in my project where I'll need brake and fuel lines too. Was debating on buying a few coils of line and doing it that way or paying for the nice stuff.

I actually have the complete stainless brake line setup on mine and it is quite nice. The stock fuel lines would never feed my motor though.

I'm in the process of doing brake, ebrake and fuel lines now. My Jimmy is lifted so I didn't buy a model specific set. I bought a kit they sell that has five, 6 foot straight sections with all of the unions and retaining clips. It was pretty inexpensive. I've only done the rear so far, but I like working with the straight sections better than straightening the coils. I bought steel, my flares on stainless don't turn out very well.
I have talked to them on the phone several times and they are knowledgeable and helpful. For fuel I'm using nylon for the LS swap. |

I heard too many stories of in-line stuff that didn't fit properly.....
so I got this and some coils of tubing and made my own tube straightener.... you can buy the stainless spring wrap shielding in long lengths too.

Tube straightener is a great idea. I have the Eastwood Brake flaring tool also and it is well worth the price. I have had good luck with the coated brake lines sold in various lengths at parts stores. Buy extra long size and bend to fit, cut put the fitting back on and flare.

I bought a complete set of SS brake lines and fuel lines from inline tube for my 1970 K5. Fuel lines were great. Front brake lines were ok, just needed minor mods. The lines that run down the frame were fine. The rear brake lines do NOT work. I have tried two sets of them on two different trucks (this 1970 and my 1971 - which is also 4wd). Neither set works. They are too short. You can only make them work if you stretch out all the bends. Obviously, if you do that they look like crap. I have spoke with inline multiple times, as well as, sent several pictures of the new lines and old lines laying side by side, with the new ones, very obviously, being shorter. Their answer was...I had to be installing them wrong. In the end, I wish I would have done like others have already said and just got rolls of tube and made my own. My 2 cents.

Pete, I used a full set of Inline tube product for my 72 K5. You can see some in my build thread or if you have a specific thing you want to see I can get pictures for you. I used their stainless version of Brake, Fuel, and Vapour/canister lines. The vapour cannister lines they sent me that mount on the frame along the rh side of the tank were wrong. They sent the wrong product but I will say once I contacted them, they made it right on their dime including shipping so in the end I don't have any issues with them. If was also a year later from the time I had bought them before I was using them and realized the issue. They didn't care about the long timeframe. They didn't say sorry but 30 days is up.
I also used their Stainless PKB cable set. It was spot on. Problem is my truck sits about 2" higher and with the custom ORD/Alcan springs the axle has a lot more travel. It made the rear cables too short but that is my issue not Inline. The product would fit a stock ride height truck. They are going to send me a new set 3" longer. I of course have to pay but their turnaround on custom stuff once I confirm the length I need they told me is only about 1 week. All sets seem to pretty much match what I removed when I laid them side by side on the floor but you definitely have to tweak them here and there when installing. No doubt about that. But I installed all of my lines by myself (except the 2 along the rear axle which I just haven't put on yet) in about 2 hours so it didn't require that much work. I have read of others on this forum having a lot more issues than me but I think more on earlier years. I don't think I have heard too much wrong with the '72 set. Let me know if you want any other pictures. What do you mean about your rear lines being siamesed?

Guys thanks for the replies and keep 'em coming - all very helpful. A1971Blazer - quite the set up that's awesome and the spring wrap was something I was curious about.
Do the Inline pieces also have the spring wrap like OEM? Jeff - thanks for asking I may ask for some photos down the road as my build progresses. As for siamesed in the rear conjoined may be a better term - there are at least two groups of lines that appear joined as a unit. I can post better close up photos but as an example the attached photo shows three separate segments of fuel lines that feature spring wrap and are bundled together (affixed to the rear crossmember IIRC) and join w hosing to that vent pipe thing near the fuel neck. Corrosion doesn't appear to be the culprit and I couldn't separate the individual segments. Was curious if Inline has nailed the detail on the more complicated pieces.

I used their SS brake lines and had to tweak it here and there, but it was a pretty good fit. I also used them to make me some custom length SS brake cables, and they fit great with my 4" lift. I also ordered some clamps that hold the brake lines to the frame and they were good too. No complaints here.

Just bought a complete brake and fuel line set...so far so good. Some just need a slight tweak/bend to line up perfectly. My only issue is with the tank to stand pipe lines.
The original lines go from the right side of the tank, along the frame to the left side past the left rear body mount, however the new lines are short and would appear to dump below the the frame. Here is a pic of my original vs the new (the orange koozie is representing the body mount). I have contacted Inline and they understand the issue and are checking into it, I am waiting to hear back. Does anyone have any specs or pics of the complete set installed? |

Pete...I'll throw my two cents in even though it seems like everyone has covered most of the bases.
I think you'll want to clean up and salvage as many of the factory clips and hold downs as possible. I have not seen any 1972 K5s on the board that have had a problem with the rear axle brake line....that's seems to be a 69/70 specific problem. I did find ILT's customer service to be lacking, but that was mainly dealing with the 70 rear brake line issue that has been so well documented on the board. As you know I went stock with my brake lines (not SS) and for whatever reason we had a few initial leaks. I am still not sure as to the cause, but we replaced a few unions and actually custom bent and flared the long brake line, scrapping the ILT unit. That could be a fluke or Karma, who knows... If I remember correctly all the fuel lines were pretty spot on, though I don't think the big line to the carb was an exact factory match. Very acceptable, but not a perfect match...again IIRC. Choices are a little limited on this. I wouldn't hesitate to order from them again in spite of everything...but my expectations would be re-calibrated.

The fuel lines posted above for 71 differ from the arrangement in 72. That GM would have as many one offs for 72 is surprising.

I spoke with Dan at Inline Tube yesterday......there are at least 2 configurations of the tank to stand pipe lines. Unfortunately, they only have one version available as they have never received a complete set of the version I appear to have. I can send them the 3 pcs I have and they will add to their collection and copy those.....however I am missing completely the 3 pcs that complete the set.
Does anyone have any pictures of the stand pipe lines they could share? |

Nothing I bought fits correctly. Everything is short. In my calls to the company they tell me I am routing them incorrectly. If you straighten mine completely out (which I did) without any bends they are still 1 inch short. Everything is stock. I bought SS brake lines for a 1970 K5.
