Interesting fenderwell treatment. And that front end - wow, how'd ya like to see that bearing down in your rear view?

Re: 1956 GMC 370 4X4 For Sale

The fender well was made like that from the up fitter who put the 4x4 on. I have only seen one other example like this over the years. It is also rare that it has a 6 cylinder in it. All Chevy LCF trucks had V8s and 99% of the GMC had V8s. I wish it was closer.....

That rig appears to have a tow bar on the front. I think it would take an even tougher truck to drag that one along the highways.

Close enough to me I talked to the wife about using it for the base of our planned "motor home". Even with my assurances I could make a silk purse out of a pigs ear she could not get past the industrial look, so no go.

Just remove the crane boom and the extra front bumber, add a couple windows and call it an ATC-MH ... "All Terrain Camping-Motor Home".
4 WD will get you where others can't go.
I can see it now ......

Whatever you do though, don't get it stuck !
If you do, you're on your own.

Looks like it already has a sleeper behind the cab...

Re: 1956 GMC 370 4X4 For Sale

Im new to the forum and now im really confused. I thought my 55 was a 370 series based in serial number but it looks nothing like that. Its a 2.5 ton with a 270.

Re: 1956 GMC 370 4X4 For Sale

Both trucks are 370 series which is an 18,000 lb GVW truck. Yours is a standard cab, a 370 (manual trans) or M370 (Hydramatic). The one in the original post is a COE or Cab Over Engine. The COE truck is an F370.

Look carefully at the front axle placement. The COE axle is almost under the windshield:

Check out P. 54 (document P. 52) of this reference:

Ok, well that makes sense. I appreciate the information. Im going to covert it to 4x4 but im trying to decide if I'm going to use to factory frame (slightly shortened) or swap the cab onto a newer 4x4 chassis. I know next to nothing about the chassis under these things.
Cost and ease of swap are issues.
My serial starts with 371 R Y and the production number. Still trying to figure all this out.

The ad says yes. You probably know that most of the larger 4X trucks have no locking hubs in the front.

Re: 1956 GMC 370 4X4 For Sale

Yep... It looks like maybe Howe Coleman axles underneath. They partnered up with GM quite often. A neighbor had an old town truck, Coleman 4X4 with 409 engine that he'd bought for $50. He said the only thing on his place the truck wouldn't pull was his Cat D7.
