Is the only difference between a 69-70 and 71-72 rear seat...

Before I mess with the rear seat, is the only difference between a 69-70 and 71-72 rear seat the rear middle mounting brackets?

I have a rear seat from a 70 and plan on relocating the center brackets farther apart for my 72.

First pic is from a 70, 2nd pic is from a 72.

My 72 has a bar that goes across and the two seat belts in the middle bolt to that, not the floor.

A bar built into the seat? Do you or anyone else have a picture?

Both my 72s have no center supports - only outside brackets as shown here: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...26&postcount=1

Note seat belt location differs also and those that bolt to the floor use differing trim boots versus those that bolt to the seat support.

Hmmm, where is the other side of the seat belt mounted on your highlander? Also, if not to the floor there would be no where to mount the center belts?

The picture depicts the seat brackets but the center seat belts were not present when that picture was taken but would bolt to the floor probably using the threads that would accommodate the center brackets seen with the other seat style.

Sooo, just went looking for 72 Blazers with the highlander package, only found 3 that showed a picture of the rear seat, all 3 have only 2 rear legs (mounting points) interesting.

Re: Is the only difference between a 69-70 and 71-72 rear seat...

I thought (perhaps erroneously) that the seat belts were mounted to the seat as part of a conversion that allows the seat to tilt forward on front bracket hinges. As mine does. Perhaps I’m wrong but seat mounted makes since for that application.

That was the fix so it could fold forward they should be bolted to the floor.

I don't think it's a highlander thing I think all the 72 center belts were bolted to the floor. I could be wrong I'm sure someone will chime in if so.

Re: Is the only difference between a 69-70 and 71-72 rear seat...

Newtynewt's are mounted where the original center floor feet should be, notice the second hole in the top of the picture. Someone probably removed them in the last 40 years. All the seats I have ever seen no matter what year had the center feet. Look at the floor and likely there are four mounting holes for the rear in the bed. From what I have seen only two of the feat had seat belt mounts. I actually bought another set so I can mount all four belts to the feet. they are really stout and I don't trust the seat frame.

Two seat configurations were used as depicted below. Not sure when the switch was made but both my 72 Blazers use the no center support belts bolted to the floor design.

Does the seat have the two holes for each feet? My 72 has the feet so it leads me to believe someone removed the feet and just bolted the belts to the floor.

Mine is a 72 supposed to be mostly original.
4 supports, seat belts mount to them. I'll try to get a picture today.

My saddle seat has original upholstery and I do not appreciate any holes where the center feet would attach. Also, note the rubber boots are molded to accommodate the belts at the floor. I believe this is an OEM configuration and it's not too tough to scare up photos of other blazers with the same configuration. My plaid seat is at the upholstery shop now so I cant check that one.
