Heavy hood
I put the original 1961 GMC pickup hood on my truck but it will not stay open without help with a piece of wood. I even bought new hinges and springs but new or old it won't stay up. It would be gratefully appreciated if someone has an answer or suggestion on this.
Thanks Greg |

Re: Heavy hood
Had a similar issue and replaced the new springs with new from Classic parts of America.

Re: Heavy hood
Thanks Clyde! I do some research and one got bought his from LMC like i did but they didn’t work so he bought them from Brothers and they worked. So im waiting on Brothers to send them. Ive bought a lot of parts from Classic Parts thats my next choice if Brothers don’t work. Thanks again!! I would have never thought that some springs are weaker than others.

Re: Heavy hood
I suffered for years...busted head and swear words. Got the new springs at a swap meet in KC when I was passing through( can’t let a good swap meet go by w/o stopping!) put them on when I got home and was shocked how they held! Good luck!!

Re: Heavy hood
Mine might have come from Brothers to. Somebody put a 2nd spring through the center of the stock springs, said it worked.

Re: Heavy hood
I’m sure glad I went to this site!! I was thinking I would have to use a block of wood for eternity. Thanks a lot! Don’t know what I’d do without having people like you guys to help me out cause I’m new at this stuff🙂

Re: Heavy hood
Good to hear. I had an issue too for the first set I bought (I think LMC). They were slightly longer I think and would not hold the hood up either. Ordered the new set from Brothers.
