Tire size?
I spent some time looking thru the tire and wheel post trying to see if I could answer my own question, but I'm still not sure. So I'm sure someone here probably knows what would be the widest tire I could put on a stock 15" rim on a 66 c10? I'd like to get away from the skinny tire look, and have some lowering dreams in my near future. Not slammed but probably 3-4 in the rear and front, enough to level it out.

Re: Tire size?
275/60/15 rear, 235/60/15 front, went 225/70 front to match new 245/45/18 size.

If you don't mind cranking that big tire. Or 255s all round

Re: Tire size?
I have 255/70 15s all around on squarebody rallys, and although my truck is still at stock height, the tires fill up the fenders well, and I am fairly certain I could easily clear a 2 inch drop in the front with no issues. The rear might need a little bit of lip rolling to clear once lowered, but I've loaded it down with some rock and didn't have any rubbing issues.

Re: Tire size?
You really shouldn't put 275/60's on a stock rim. You would need a 7 or 8" rim and I would probably say 7 is a but undersized. You need to talk to your local tire shop and they will tell you what you can put on a stock rim.

Re: Tire size?
Thank you for all the replies. Sounds like I'll just wait to upgrade rims and tires at same time. Are there any specific years or models that would match up with stock equipment that would fit my bill?

Re: Tire size?
I have 8" rims. Front is 255/60 and the rear is 275/60/15's. Also with a 3/4 drop. The truck was converted to 5 lug but they do make six lug steels now.

Hevy:
I'm running 275's on my 63 short fleet. My truck is lowered 4/6. As you start to push the envelope on tire width, you will need to watch your wheel backspace. I run a 4.75" backspace wheel to get it all to fit. I believe that the steelies are around a 4" backspace. |

Re: Tire size?
Yes, the 275 is a bit much for a 7" but thats what I ran. Side by side 275/60/15- 295/45/18

Re: Tire size?
Yes the wheels that are original to these trucks are 5.5" wide.

Re: Tire size?
Yeah a little. But all good info for me so I can figure out what size I need to get the look I'm after. I don't really want to put any fancy rims on it, other than maybe a set of old school cragars, so I think the cheapest way is to find a later model set on Craigslist or something like that, that someone is getting rid of. Is the 6 lug pattern standard size? And what years might fit my '66? I need to do some more research I think.

Re: Tire size?
I have a set of GM "four nub" steel wheels sitting in my garage. I measured them at 8" wide (inside lip to inside lip), and they have the space to clear disk brakes. They were not stock to our trucks, but definitely have the stock look.
