TH400 shift points

Okay, I replaced the shi**y 2-barrel holley and intake manifold on my '79 C-10 to an aluminium spreadbore intake and a Q-jet with a 1" spacer. Feels like a different engine altogether. Now i would like the tranny to shift a little higher in the rpm range at WOT, what's the best way to do this?

Well... A nice shift kit might help you out. Chirping tires would definitely bring a smile to your face.

I have a Towing kit in mine and it still barks 1-2. It shifts a little too high for my cam though.

Lol thanks for the support but this old 350 will be replaced with a mean 468 BBO next spring. I just hated the mileage and lack of power so i swapped intakes and carbs.

I'll be more specific here. The transmission shifts firm enough, but at way too low RPM. Probably because the truck had a diesel and was converted, most likely using the original th400 and torque converter. Is the governor where i should be looking at?

I'm not sure if your talking about the 1 gear govenor. " you can still have the gear shift in 1st and it will shift to 2nd"

To get rid of mine I used a Trans GO shift kit with the manual/ automatic feature.

Yes, the governor is what you need to work with. If you can get one from a gas truck, or car for that matter, it will raise the WOT shift points. You can also buy spring and weight kits to adjust shift points.

Try adjusting the modulator valve. I know they say it only increases or decreases it a couple of mph. But with mine I got it shifting out of 1st from 15 to 30. I still need to adjust it I turned mine in all the way and I guess it was all the way out almost. It hits a lot harder going into second. One more thing I noticed is that it raised the shift points and the rpm range. For mine to shift it has to be around 26-30mph @ about 3,000 rpm. I have a transgo Shift kit in my used "rebuilt" th400 that I picked up. I was told it was rebuilt but Im not so sure of that, it works but not like it would if it had been rebuilt.
