What are these brackets for?
I am starting to pick up some speed on the '74 project since we were stalled with a prostate cancer issue with one of the main guys helping on the build.
I was rear-ended prior to getting the build started and had my new chrome bumper destroyed. I have the replacement and new brackets but was short one set of SS bolt, washer and nut. In looking over the parts, I saw this "DEFLECTOR" bracket #27. What is this for? I don't remember removing anything like them when installing the first replacement bumper. Are they necessary? http://www.lmctruck.com/icatalog/cc/865w/0040.jpg

Re: What are these brackets for?
Apparently not, I've never seen them on a fleetside, just stepsides.

Re: What are these brackets for?
They fill the gap between the bed and bumper. I have them on both my 77 and 78 fleetsides.
Sorry for the sideways pic. Last edited by Eman; 06-21-2018 at 09:01 PM. |

Re: What are these brackets for?
I have only seen them on 1 truck. Most are long gone by the time I acquire a truck (kinda like the muffler heat shield for the wood beds, never saw one on any of the trucks I had). I was told back then it keeps rocks from bouncing up between tail and bumper.

Re: What are these brackets for?
So... it looks like they cover up the bumper brackets, correct?
