more wiring questions

While wiring my gauge cluster in on my 59 GMC I have a heavy black wire that goes to one side of the ammeter and a heavy red wire that is supposed to go to the other side of the ammeter. My problem is my truck has no ammeter, only a light socket for a generator light. Can't find anything on my wiring diagram about any jumpers or the generator light.
If anyone has run into this and has a solution I would sure like to hear it
Thanks
