why is my truck getting so hot?
when I'm driving my truck on city streets when I come to a stop at a light or stop sigh my temp. shoots up to 200-210,one time it did that the motor shut down and I had to wait till the motor cooled down to get it to restart.the gauge has always pointed at 180 driving or at idle untill just lately.
has a new 180 thermostate,fresh coolant,has a electric fan,

What kind of electric fan? Meaning size and maker. You fan may be too small to keep it cool.

Does your electric fan have a thermostat? If it does, some of them use a cheesy sensor that gets pushed into the radiator fins. These don't always like to measure the correct temp and can turn the fan on when the engine is hotter than it should be. You may even have to simply adjust what temp. the fans kick in at.

You still never answered my question. What brand is it and how big is it.
If it's a cheapo, it may be laying down on you, especially since you just said you leave it on all the time. These things are not designed to be left on all the time. They are electric motors and will burn out. |

ill go with water pump... if its new thermostat (could be a bad one though)... i have heard of putting two small hole in the thermostat just to keep the flow through the radiator.... but doesnt this defeat the purpose of thermostat? meh...id try the pump

the small holes are not only for flow (there's a bypass on the block, pass side mounting flange for water pump), it's for removing steam bubbles trapped under the thermostat. check your radiator, it may be clogged up.
