5.3 with 90's 4l60-e?

Is it possible for a ls computer to control a mid 90's 4l60e trans? I am looking at swapping a 5.3 into a 76 pathfinder 4x4 van, and it uses a th350 2wd with a special long adapter to a Ford 205 trans. I know I can just use a regular 700r4, but figured the trans might work better if the computer controls it. But I need to have the 4bolt tailshaft like the older ones use. I have no problem building a custom trans if I can use the newer electronics in the older case. just thought I'd see if anyone else had run into this.

I'm not sure about the bolt pattern to a 203. But the easiest way I've put a 4l60e to a 205 was a 6 to 4 bolt adapter and a spacer. Both from advanced adapters. No tearing the trans down to change shafts etc. here's a link.

Another showing a little more detail of how it goes together.

I edited my post. its for a 205. its a special adapter made by pathfinder that I will reuse. The question is wether an ls computer will talk to a 90's 4l60 or will I have to run a 700r for overdrive.

There's no reason that it can't. There are few issues, some I sure you know about.

First, the input shafts are different, so you need an adapter to run a non-LS transmission with an LS engine:
crank spacer 12563532
6 longer bolts 19257940
flexplate 19260102

Second, in ~95 GM started doing PWM torque converter control. You should use one of these rather than 92-94 trans.

Third, 06+ use an additional sensor, so the wiring is different. If you have a gen IV motor, the ECM/TCM would probably have to be tuned

Be sure to check the harness and transmission pin wiring.

I'll toss in that fwiw, just make sure its actually a 4l60e there were those sneaky few situations when it was just a 4l60 which would be the same TV cable situation that the 700r4 uses.

Looks like the flexplate in my 01 6.0 2500HD. They are known to crack. I replaced mine with a unit from Circle D which has worked great.

Re: 5.3 with 90's 4l60-e?

The 5.3L Vortec truck engine uses an off-set flex plate that with a little filing inward will match torque convertor pattern. The hub center for eBay for $25 to center crank to convertor nose. That was all it took for mine.
