55 chevy 2 gen tailgate
hi i would like to know if anyone would know the dimension of side support on the tail gate. I want to get rid of the chains. I know you can buy them but want them hidden with no bolts going through the gate. One has to be longer but can not figure the two lengths needed. Any help would be appreciated Thanks Denis

Re: 55 chevy 2 gen tailgate
On a stock tailgate I don't think that style of hinge is going to work without the fastener showing but choice of fastener =bolt and nut might clean things up quite a bit.
I have to do something similar on my 48 this rebuild as I haven't had tailgate chains on it for 30 years but just held the tailgate closed with two short bolts in the past. That isn't too good if you need to lower it.
