LQ4/4L80E torque converter
hey everyone I hope this is the right spot for this I'm swapping a LQ4/4l80e into a 1976 k20 and I don't have any idea what stall converter I should use. I didn't get the original when I got the tranny, but I believe they are 2000RPM. Also this is my first automatic build so I'm unsure how to pick one. my truck has 4.10 gears nd I'm planning on using 33"tires the engine has a summit racing 218/227 Duration, .523/.524 Lift cam and LT headers. I'm planning on using the truck as a toy more then anything but would still like to be able to tow a trailer if a need to. I was thinking around a 2500-2700RPM stall would this work? or can someone recommend a good TC like I said this is my first auto trans and I'm confused thanks.

Re: LQ4/4L80E torque converter
I have recently been using RoadRunner converters. If you call Jim there and tell him Shaun Liddy sent you he will for sure treat you right.
I am a big fan of BIG converters especially since you have a lock up trans (talking 4,500-5,000rpm, last one actually went to 6,200 on the N20 kit) but... That requires you to have an awesome tuner or the ability to tune yourself and take the time to do it right. Oh, and a 4,500-5,000 stall would NOT be good for towing. It's mainly an issue with 1st as once you are in 2nd-4rth and the verter is locked, a good tripple disk will not slip even with a trailer behind you going up hill. But the time you are in first will heat up the trans. No doubt a 4,500-5,000 rpm converter would wake it up out of the hole, but I would probably tell you to keep it to about 3,200 max with towing in mind. but call Jim, and tell him what you are doing.

Re: LQ4/4L80E torque converter
Bump...I'm interested in around 2,500-3,000 stall for my 4L80e. Any particular brands I should be looking at?

Re: LQ4/4L80E torque converter
I wouldn't go more than 2500. That's not that much cam and you've got a lot of gear.
If it's a drag truck, put a LOT more cam and converter in it. But if it's a street truck you don't want to be too sloppy about the converter.

Re: LQ4/4L80E torque converter
A 2000-2400 would be a nice rpm. There is a lot more to a converter then just stall rpm. I had a precision and liked it a lot. Call them up and give combo and they will set you up with the right one
