Shocks: Stock Truck vs Pre-Runner
What I would like to know is how much travel a stock trucks suspension travels compare to what would work on a pre-runner truck that will at most see little if any off road time for a while [cant break the truck until the other one is done].
It will have a 4" lift spindle and the springs are those from the GMC V6 trucks on the front and a three link with wishbone out back instead of leafs. Powered by a 514HP 6.0L LS backed by a 4L80E, tire size of either a 33" or 35" on 18's since I have them. Since the truck has 8 lugs I can opt for the 1 ton rotors meant for dually trucks that space the front wheels out 8" further. What would be a good choice for travel length up front and would 16" to 18" be enough in the rear?

Re: Shocks: Stock Truck vs Pre-Runner
Out of curiosity, have you lifted and lowered it on a set of jacks (no shock/spring) to see how far it wants to articulate unrestricted? Last one I recall working on (Ok, the only prerunner I've worked on) was an 88 Toyota, which ran around ~18" of travel and limit straps.
My lowered c10 has like 4" of travel up front and like 9" out back lol.

Re: Shocks: Stock Truck vs Pre-Runner
No drivetrain yet...sadly money had to go elsewhere. Those stock gmc v6 springs are meant to hold a 760 pound engine up and don't give at all. I will have a set of new fully adjustable upper arms that I can change both caster and camber on. Once I have it up and running then that's when all the changes will be made...too many ideas in my head!
