Re: Engine covers 5.3

I think I'm just gonna run without a cover. I have an 07 5.3 and I don't think the intake looks bad. My harness isn't gonna run off of it either which helps a lot.

That is a cool cover.

Here is what mine turned out like.

6.0 instead of a 5.3 though!

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: Engine covers 5.3

Just found these covers by Vannatta Fab. They look pretty good and the price isn't too bad. They also make a ton of other really cool 67-72 custom parts...

Re: Engine covers 5.3

For you guys who are smoothing and painting stock covers.. Do you just paint it with the same paint you painted your trucks with or did you have to mix in some kind of flex additive like newer cars use on plastic bumpers? I would hate to do all the work and then have the paint crack on me.

Re: Engine covers 5.3

I just used regular primer and paint. The factory covers are pretty thick and don't seem as flexible as the urethane bumpers where you need the additive.

Ok thanks. I feel better about it now. I am going to be making some custom covers out of corvette fuel rail covers.

I remember when we designed those for the GMT800 program. It was sort of our first foray into 'underhood aesthetics'. Total shock for me as a chassis/powertrain guy.

I designed the air cleaner to match the engine cover but the ribs were "insies". By the time I was done with the design "insies" were out and "outsies" were in. We ended up with the squarish cover you referenced and the airbox that is still in use (for the foreseeable future).

K

Personally, I really like the stock Vortec engine cover

Re: Engine covers 5.3

I couldn't find a cover I liked at all. I smoothed my intake and had it dipped. Turned out pretty well IMO.
