Need Help With My First LS Swap

Hey Everyone, I Had questions about my first swap. I have a LQ4 6.0 with a 4L80E from a 2005 Silverado that will be going into my 67 Shortbed. Does anyone recommend a service that is reasonable to do the wiring harness and program.
Also this engine came with factor air condition pump and I was not sure if people use it when doing a swap or just use the one that comes in an aftermarket kit when adding air.
As far as some companies that program the computer on the internet I noticed they ask does it have air condition and I'm not sure what to say since I will be adding an after market air system.
Last question is what questions about my build should I be prepared to include to the companies that program such as tire size and such.

Sorry for the questions I just want the swap to go great and with as little issues since it's my first swap.

Re: Need Help With My First LS Swap

You'll want to do this in the LS Swap subforum,I imagine. Lots of experienced and helpful people that have done it before.

Re: Need Help With My First LS Swap

I've done several but that has been a while. My first was in 2005 I think when it was a good idea but hardly any support. My first was a 6.0 80E trans in a 68 LeMans convert. I still have the car under a cover in my shop. My brother had a fit for that car and after we got it running and driving and painted he died and it has been covered since like08. Anyways That first one I did had hardly any support since the idea was fresh at that time but I used John Spears. He did[does] what he says when he says and on time. He help design the electronics for the C6 vette when he was a GM engine engineer. He also did my ECM. I've used other places later some were a little cheaper but John always has stood out cause of his service I think.
Also go over to LS1.com there are hundreds of thousands swaps there into a lot more difficult swaps than into a C truck. Good luck

Re: Need Help With My First LS Swap

My advice is to find someone local to do the harness and programming. Internet guys usually do well but I like to have an adress to go to when/if an issue comes up.

Ac question: you can use the stock LS compressor as long as it isn’t a variable type, usually cars/corvettes have those.i have old air and use the stock 05 compressor.

Good luck!

Re: Need Help With My First LS Swap

I did the wiring myself and then sent my computer off to Brendan at http://www.lt1swap.com/ to be programmed. I was very happy with Brendan's tune and would use him again.

I also used his instructions on the website to rewire my harness and so far I've done 2 of them with no issues.

Re: Need Help With My First LS Swap

I just did my first LS conversion. I have done many old school Motor combos, rebuilds and such, but honestly, after this experience, ill never do old school again. The LS is such a great platform.
Gee, where to start... First off, i used PSI Wiring for my harness and computer. Great company and customer service was outstanding. Price is a up a bit, just about $950.00 for everything i ordered from them. My Tuner uses them also.
Think you asked about key things to know or something like that. Here are a few:
1.) Cable or Electronic gas pedal/Throttle Body (assuming you go with Fuel Injected)
2.) Going to 4L60E or 4L80E you will need to get Speedo converter or buy new speedo gauge or gauges.
3.) If you do not own many metric tools, buy a bunch.
4.) Gas tank and pump will need upgrades or modifications
5.) 4L803 I have heard takes some modification to the floor area to fit, not sure on this, but my 4L60E fit right in.
6.) IF you plan on rebuilding the motor, may i suggest buy a how to build an LS Book. I only say this because there are defiantly some differences from the old school motors. I can go more in to detail about what i found at a later time if you want.

Again, i love the LS platform, the injection is awesome. Gas mileage, runabilty, and so on it great.
I wish you only the best. Be patient.

Re: Need Help With My First LS Swap

I have to recommend this book. It really answered so many of my questions before I started my swap.

Just got mine on the road in April/May of this year. Best thing I have ever done to my truck. Really love the gas mileage, power, ease of starting.
