Seat Suggestions
Any Suggestions for replacement seats for a 56 Chevy Pick Up?
I would like something more comfortable that straight bench seating? |

Re: Seat Suggestions
Are you wanting bucket seats or a nicer bench? I run a newer bench seat and it's better than the factory seat.

Re: Seat Suggestions
The Search button is your friend - there are literally dozens of threads about this same subject.
Cutting to the bottom line: 88-98 Chevy truck bench seats fit perfectly. Many will tell you to use the stock seat. I will tell you to use the stock seat but remove the stock springs - most have broken or failing springs after 60+ years - and replace with modern foam that will allow you to contour the shape you want. PS: My stock springs are rare in that they’re in perfect condition, sand blasted and powder coated gloss black, but I didn’t end up using them. I will TRY to sell them eventually. PSS: Photo of my stock seat, recontoured & reupholstered.

Re: Seat Suggestions
If you go the later seat get the Silverado seat or at least the upgrade from the base model The upgrade seats will have the pleats in them like you see in Mikebte's photo. The base model that just has flat fabric is like driving on a church pew. I had one in my 71 and swapped it for a split bench out of a 89/90 extended cab that even meets my wife's approval.

Re: Seat Suggestions
Very nice Roger.
I really like the original design. Kind of close for a tall guy but I should be able to move it back a little with that gas tank removed. What was the cost for the upholstery? |

Re: Seat Suggestions
Thanks. I don't know exactly. The shop did the seat, visors, headliner, and a custom sewn carpet job and it was a package price.

Re: Seat Suggestions
tall seat equals seat back hitting the back wall/window unless thje seat is closer to the steering wheel which isn't great for a tall guy. otherwise the seat needs to be straight up and down, again not a great riding angle. short back seats are what you will likely need. a tall bucket with a removable head rest could be an option. it's the biggest reason why I extended my cab. some seats will have seat belts built in but also would normally be a high back bucket then. some guys like the vw seats for comfort but, again, a taller back usually. some will use the second or third row bench seats from an astro van or similar. some of them are pretty straight up and down as well though. suggest to go for a stroll through the local wrecker with a tape measure. if you find the right seat the base can be fabbed to fit later.

Re: Seat Suggestions
I went to a local bone yard and found a bench seat from a 1989 Silverado ($20), had it upholstered and it mounts in between the original seat stands perfectly on my 56 2nd. I'm 6'1" and it sits back perfectly and the back doesn't sit any higher than the lower edge of the rear window.
