Posi Unit Gears
Well, i know what i did... I removed the 10 bolt cover, and took a peek inside the rear end early this morning... I broke two gears that go on the inside of the posi unit.. They are the ones that go on the sides, not the top/bottom i believe.. How can i replace these? I also need to replace the bar that they sit on as well, because it has a massive groove in it.. do i need to buy a whole new posi unit? if so i could probably get one from the junk yard cheep right? and install it fairly easy? the ring and pinion appear to be in fine condition, no real pitting or no broken gears or anything... How easy is it to replace the posi unit.. and does anyone have any websites/pics/info on how to do this?
Thanks a bunch!!!!!!

This a G80 Gov Loc? The side gears ride on the end of the axle shafts. The splies and the C-Clip grove will be visable. The G80 for the 10 bolt is meserable unit. Not so bad in a 12 and 14 but it probably needs rebuilding as well. Personnay I would scrap and go with a Auburn or something along those lines. I thing a Auburn could be had for around $350 complet and then it will need a set up kit for around 100. Other alterantive is scrap it and find another axle. Pull a part her in GA lets complete axles go for $100. Luck of the draw on what would be available.
http://www.ring-pinion.com/ is a good place to deal with if you decide to just put in a new carrier/posi. I like the Aubrn LS or the new Rebuildable Eaton LS with the carbon fiber discs. My understanding is the Eaton you can controll the amount of prussure and make it real tight if your dooing some sat night at the track stuff.
