when you say reset the timing, does that mean clockwise now advances the timing? and continue moving slowly to gain additional degrees? i just want to be sure I have this properly understood. Thanks for your input!

Nothing changes direction. The firing order is still clockwise and turning the distributor counter clockwise still advances the timing "reset the timing" means: hook up your timing light and set the timing as you normally would.
