Oil Pressure
Howdy folks. I have a 1980 Silv. with a 454. I just replaced my stock elect gauges with mechanical. On the stock ones, the oil pressure always pegged out as soon as I started truck and stayed pegged (past the 60 psi on gauge). On the new mechancial one, it's close to 50 psi when going around 70 mph and around 25 psi when sitting at a light. Is this normal? If not...suggestions? Thanks.

Sounds like the electrical gauge or sender was bad. The readings you are getting with the mechanical are normal though.

I agree with Chris sounds perfectly normal to me.
All my gauges sucked so I put in the autometers. The oil pressure is mech. It moves as much as the tach. When cold the pressure gets up to 60, if I really push it, it will get higher but I dont do that often. Once warmed up it doesnt drop below 20 at idle (thats right after high speed driving, like freeway).
