6.0 swap with 4L60E not shifting

I'm about finished with my 48 COE, but having a transmission problem, first of all just in case it could have something to do with it. When it's cold it will start right up but will not idle on it's on for about 30 seconds then it's fine. I can take off in first and shift manually up to 3rd ( won't go into 4th). If I start in drive it is in safe mode and starting in 3rd. I'm getting 3 pending faults of P0740, P0753 and P1860. I fell like it is in the wiring, not getting a signal from something telling it to work, I have power to pin 33 from normally closed brake switch. Ive got power on pink wire to tranny. I'm not sure what other wires to check, also it's a after market wiring harness.

Re: 6.0 swap with 4L60E not shifting

Surely somebody has some idea for me to try. I'm worried if I keep drive it the way it is I may ruin the transmission.

Re: 6.0 swap with 4L60E not shifting

Most 6.0's had 4l80's behind them, not 60's, so if your PCM thinks it has an 80 then it needs to be reflashed. Other than that, if you think it is a wiring issue, what brand of harness do you have?

I agree that a 6.0 typically has a 4L80E behind them.

Re: 6.0 swap with 4L60E not shifting

Pcm was set up for 4L60E, can't remember what company did harness, had it done several years ago. It wasn't street and performance but it was something similar, they are out of business now

Re: 6.0 swap with 4L60E not shifting

Has the transmission ever worked correctly in this truck or is this the first time you have driven the truck with this 4L60E transmission

What year is the 4L60E trans ?

Do you have the pinouts of the connector going into the transmission.

You state you have voltage on the pink wire, do you have voltage in the trans harness as well ? Check the connector going into the transmission and or the harness in the trans to ensure you have voltage inside the trans. the issue you are describing indicates there is no voltage on ignition 1 pin going into trans, but need for you to answer the above questions in order to assist you at this point.

Re: 6.0 swap with 4L60E not shifting

Transmission worked in donor not this one, 1997 van tranny with 5.3, I have a pin out, pin e is the hot, all the solenoids have power at the solenoid, I benched tested all, they all clicked and seemed to be working, this is why I feel it's not getting the right signal from something telling it to work

Re: 6.0 swap with 4L60E not shifting

What’s different from the donor truck to your project truck ? If it worked in the donor truck, did you use donor pcm and wiring ?

When you refer to pin 33 and brake switch what connector are you speaking about. Is that the TCC solenoid wiring and how is that setup thru brake switch

Re: 6.0 swap with 4L60E not shifting

Aftermarket wiring harness is only difference that I know of, pinn 33 is hot wire from normally closed brake switch, breaks the connection to the TCC when pedal is pressed. What else affects it shifting? VSS, TPS.

Re: 6.0 swap with 4L60E not shifting

Since every thing inside the trans checks out per your bench testing, have you checked the wiring to VSS, have you replaced the VSS ? have you tested the TPS as well. Have you disconnected the brake switch and tried it.

first of all absolutely killer rig, but have you updated your tire size and gear ratio in HP Tuners, those settings impact the shift points

Had a similar situation as yours, when first getting my LS swap on the road. Did the same tests as you, too. Turned out to be a faulty PCM

Don't won't to hear that, but that's what I've been feeling. I wanted to try all possible things before that, as far as I know there's not anyone local that reflashes them. Thank You

Re: 6.0 swap with 4L60E not shifting

Again, I was in your same situation, with no local tuner (that I knew of at the time), low bucks and a questionable vendor for harness and PCM reflash. Ended up seeking advice from www.PCMperformance.com out of New York. Sent them an email ('cause I'm an old fart) about the problem and could they reflash the current PCM. Ended up buying a new PCM, that was programmed to my trucks' spec's. They have you fill out a worksheet pertaining to all the vehicle spec's. Soon as I got the new PCM, it was instant wonderfulness! Now, three years later, my truck still runs excellent, even without seeing a dyno, as everyone wants you to do. Give them a shout, and see what they recommend. Good luck. And yeah, cool rig!

Re: 6.0 swap with 4L60E not shifting

Ya know, I think the only thing that's gold in our "Golden Years" is the pee we put in the toilet!! I'm 72 and also on SS. But I'm still "young enough" to still play with my truck. I think the cost was around $495, but it was worth every penny when I saw how good the truck ran after going round and round on the "transmission" problem. Another thing I found quite helpful was a subscription (on-line) to AllData DIY. You get the vehicle your powertrain comes from (mine was a '05 Tahoe) and you have unlimited use of schematics, troubleshooting info, TSB's that pertain to the vehicle, DTC info, etc. The sub is good for a year, but I printed all of the schematics, pin-outs, and connecter info, which I keep on a clip board in the garage in case I need it later on.
BTW, this is my truck

Re: 6.0 swap with 4L60E not shifting

Sorry, Gregski and Mongocanfly I totally miss your post, yes they had all my info as far as tire size and gear ratio, I'm getting a speed reading from obd2 port and it's right on with my GPS and I don't have a build thread, didn't have time as I was building it now that I'm retired I can do one

Would he be getting a P0730 code, gear ratio issues ? Just wondering. He indicated the P0740 P0753 and P1860 is present....no P0730 codes.

I am sure HP tuner will fix every thing from the laptop, maybe plug in the joy stick and manual shift that 4L60E.

Yes, same codes, I've ordered a new internal wiring harness for the tranny, to eliminate that, should be here in a couple of days
