Re: Random Photos ‘You took’

I took this picture near my mom's place. I have yet to use a GPS. No particular reason, just never felt the need. Might have something with doing just fine getting where I needed to go before there was such a device. But this gives me another reason. I hate getting bad directions. I can sniff a place out easier than find it on incorrect directions. The road takes a hard turn left here and it seems GPS takes you straight down these people's lane. Happens so much the state hiway dept had this sign made

Then last summer I was down in Virginia, headed back into the hills, and I see this sign

But some people won't read signs if it hits them right in the face!

A year or so back I was riding my horse down the county road headed home. We come across this guy in a pickup just parked in the road among the pine trees (part of our land now). So I stop and talk and he says he is looking for such-and-such road. I tell him that he just passed it about a quarter mile back, didn't he see the sign?

He says "yeah, but the GPS says it should be right here" (in the middle of the pines with no roads or driveways ).

I told him to turn that damn thing off!

Sometimes the signs do get stolen or knocked down, but Geez! if you see the sign for the road you are looking for, why would you just keep driving ?????

Re: Random Photos ‘You took’

Been chasing a shimmy on my K20 . Had the tires rebalanced very little change seemed to be coming from the left front just a gut feeling . So I decided I would take off the fronts and put the tires from my C20 on the front. Found this on the side . Dated 4th week of 2015 changed it with the spare no more shimmy . Bought a new set of Michelin Defenders

The black “dirt” is actually surface coal. Apparently the San Juan basin is one of only a few places in the world where there is coal naturally present at the surface. I know of several places in the basin where it’s at the surface. I’m a nerd and find geology pretty interesting.

We have some exposed coal around here.

And sometimes the gophers bring it up from just below the surface.

There's a big mine just 10-15 miles cross country from us.

If you're a nerd for that sort of thing, check out books by John Mc Phee. I could care less about geography, and he got me interested in it! Several very good books on it, start with Control of Nature.

Re: Random Photos ‘You took’

My destroyed office. My buddy came over and asked me why I didn't clean it up?

Easy answer. If I clean that crap up she'll look for something else. Something I might actually like. So the trash stays until she slows down. She can tear it apart all she wants if it keeps her busy and away from my guitars.

It's wonderful having a puppy.

View of where Big Creek flows into the Buffalo River. The Buffalo is behind me and my truck is on the top of the wooded hill in the distance. It was 4.5 miles and about 900 feet in elevation away. Long hike that day but I caught a lot of fish.
