98 camaro donor, what wiring to get
I’ve got a 98 camaro z28 Ls1 with 4L60e that I’ll be swapping into a 48 Chevy pickup on an s10 frame.
I have the engine pulled along with the engine harness and brake/gas pedal assembly. My main question about the wiring is, what in cab wiring is necessary if any from the camaro. Or is it easier to buy aftermarket for the in cab wiring needs. Also any recommendations on someone to send my harness to, to convert it to stand alone? |

Re: 98 camaro donor, what wiring to get
The only thing you really need from inside the car is the ALDL (OBD2) connector. You could use the whole wiring harness to wire the truck but that is a lot of work, and since it sounds like you dont want to mod the engine harness it would be way easier to get an aftermarket kit to wire the main part of the truck with. If you dont mind doing the engine harness yourself, LT1swap has all the info on how it's done. Not super hard but time consuming if you've never done one before. If you take your time and pay close attention to what you're doing you shouldn't have any problems with it.

Okay, I’ll get the obd2 connector. I just have some reservations about doing it myself, since I never have. I’d hate to mess up my computer by having something in the wrong spot. Also since it is time consuming it may be worth it to me to have someone else rework it for me.

Are you going to pay someone to wire the rest of the truck too? If so, I would just buy a kit for that, and a new stand alone harness for the engine that way you dont have much in labor time to wire the engine portion of it.

Re: 98 camaro donor, what wiring to get
I bought it as a project, with a carbed 350, so it has a speedway harness for everything for that setup. I’d like to do all I can myself, I’m fairly comfortable with wiring lights and things like that, I just also don’t want to get over my head and cost myself more money. But I may be making it out to be harder than it really is.

If you're comfortable wiring lights and such, then I would think you could do your own engine harness. As long as you understand how to wire a relay, then the rest of it would be pretty easy for you.
