Factory Exhaust Tip?

This tip was on a brown stepside I bought 6 years ago (305). It looked factory so I kept it. Last month I bought a red stepside truck (6 cyl) and just replaced the cherry bomb and turndown with a stock exhaust set-up ($80 at O'reillys). I assumed it was a factory stepside only thing? Maybe only on V8 trucks with the dual outlet muffler? I put it on the red one anyway. I've never noticed another one before.

Re: Factory Exhaust Tip?

Far as I know those are/were an aftermarket item. I have not seen one in many years.

If OEM, given the shape of the fender, might have been installed to prevent someone from burning their leg while reaching into the bed for something.

My speculation as well DP. Also the intricacy of construction, the way the angle of the end perfectly matches the pipe, and even consistent patina of all the surrounding elements on the brown truck made me believe it could be a factory part. Have not located a GM part number on it tho.
