ecm question...

Would it be possible to buy an ecm from a car of the same year and have all the info overwritten for a truck tune?

Donor vehicle for swap: 2002 suburban 5.3 with 4l60e

I'm thinking of picking up a spare ECM and have it tuned with the suburban's data. I can get a really cheap one off a 2002 v6 car shipped for $30.

Re: ecm question...

short answer is yes for example the 12200411 PCM module was widely used on V6 and V8 vehicles, once you get a box you can FLASH it and even change the VIN number on it, do you know what Service No ie Part Number you are buying?

One gotcha would be is it the Red and Blue connector era (drive by cable) or the Green and Blue connector era (ie drive by wire). 2002 sounds like Red and Blue so still the drive by cable. So do you have a Red and Blue wiring harness already?

Re: ecm question...

I'm hoping to do something similar. I've got a 2010 e38 that I intend to flash from a truck to a camaro. Since the part no. is the same, I'm reasonably confident this will work well. The second part of the equation is that intend to go back into the Camaro tune, and change all parameters back to the original truck engine. Again, I think it will work, but I'm less confident. This should give me the closest thing to a factory gen iv truck engine with a manual transmission.

I hope to do it with only one hptuners license purchase -- for the camaro tune. I can read my original vortec tune without licensing it.

Again, this is all on gen iv. I assume you're working with a gen iii, which could be quite different.

Re: ecm question...

One license, not a chance. Each ecu needs a license aka 2 credits or more depending on application. Otherwise, obvuolsy this would be a loop hole for tuners...
