Will 15" x 10" wide rim with 4" backspace fit with stock rear?
I am building a 1966 short bed fleet side from the ground up and i am just wondering if a rim that is 15" x 10" wide with 4" backspace fit between the outer rear fenders? I can modify the bed and rear inner fender wells, just not sure if it will fit in between the outer fenders.
Sorry to ask, i have searched and searched and i cannot measure because the truck is completely apart. Thanks to all who give feedback, very much appreciated. Just a note, plan is fully bagged, tubular front a-arms, factory short bed, wood bed, fleet side, 383 full roller stroker, rebuilt muncie 4-speed and so on. build page coming.... |

Are you sure the BS is 4" and not 3.750"? The fitment is largely going to depend on the tire you mount on the wheel. The answer is yes a 15 x 10 wheel can work on a fleetside.

The stepsides have less room for tire and wheel than a fleetside. You will not be able to use a off the shelf 10" wide wheel on a stepside with a stock width differential, if it is lowered.

Summit Racing has these with 4.5" Back space Wheel Vintiques 12 Series Smoothie Wheels 12-5005042 Summit Racing has these with 4.0" Back Space U.S. Wheel 68 Series Rat Rod Matte Black Wheels 68-5050 But i think that i want a much taller rim but would like the width and low profile tire, but not sure it will work with a bagged out 1966 C10 Fleetside with stock rear. I understand that may need to do something with the bed inner fenders, make them wider and i am ok with that, just not sure on the outside fender. |

I think you would be better off with a five inch backspace and it will work.

I have some 15x10 with a 295/50/15 with a three inch backspace and it’s way to tight.

My 64 short fleet has bags & the 'narrow' early truck arm 12bolt. There's NO WAY a 10" wheel w/4" BS would fit. I have 10" wide wheels w/5.5" BS & they still would not fit w/o cutting-up the inner bedside wall @ the seamed area. In these included ride height mock-up pics, I now have a narrowed 9" housing (58" vs 62) installed. I utilized adapters to put on those 10" wheels w/5.5" BS:

Re: Will 15" x 10" wide rim with 4" backspace fit with stock rear?
I switched to the narrowed rear housing specifically to allow using a 10" wide wheel w/4" BS & not have to cut up the inner bedside. The bed is also mini-tubbed to fit the rubber.

Since these trucks are so old & parts are easily swapped between the years, you have to pay attention to what you have & not assume just because it's 'X' year model, it will work. From what I learned: 63-64 'narrow' 12-bolt 17-spline axles 65-69 'narrow' 12-bolt 31-spline axles 70 could be either the narrow or wider by 1.5" 12-bolt 31-spline axles 71-80 'wider' 12 bolt 31-spline axles Any of the above from 63-72 could be truck-arm or leaf housings. The additional width was outboard of the T/A or leaf mounting pads. 81-87/91 'wider' 10 or 12 bolt In 88, the C/K GMT400 style rear housings/axles got an increase in width again by 1.5". So, if you have a truck that has one of the possible '70 model wider housings swapped in prior to your ownership, things are different vs. something that came as factory. A buddy & I learned this the hard way (after he spent $$ on new wheels).

Re: Will 15" x 10" wide rim with 4" backspace fit with stock rear?
Looking @ this pic, the rears don't seem 10" wide. Could just be an angle/view perspective thing. What size tires & how much/how was it dropped?
On mine, there's ~1/2" clearance out-board of the sidewall w/the stock bedside opening lip. Any mods to the one in your pic?

It didn't seem like a 10" wide wheel. Photos on the screen are difficult to get the right view sometimes though. They looked like ~8" wheels w/about 3-3.5" BS to me. A 255 section width tire helps as that seems about right for an 8" wheel.

Here's mine with 15x10, 325 50 15 Nitto drag tires. BS is 6.5". Wheels from Wheels Vintique. Probably could have done just 6" BS, or an even wider wheel.

Yep..... 14" wide prob @ about 9.75"BS would be max w/a 15-16.5" wide tire.

Re: Will 15" x 10" wide rim with 4" backspace fit with stock rear?
Im running these on a 66 longbed fleet. They have 5.5" backspacing. It required trimming the bed wood floor to increase the opening and widening the wheel tubs for clearance. I trimmed back the fender lips slightly.
RID-695-2173G 15x10 5.5 backspace pics in the build thread.
