fan kick on/off temp
I have a dual speed single fan that seems to run all the time. Temp seems to stay right at 200 even when going 80mph.
The tune has the activation temps as follows? Fan 1 on 195 off 185 - low speed fan 2 on 215 off 205 - high speed if the temp is always 200, fans are alway on even on the freeway. Should I have a reflash done with higher temps? Change thermostat for a lower temp? The one in there is a oem temp. Or maybe the 6 cylinder radiator isn't cutting it. |

Re: fan kick on/off temp
If it isn't overheating, then I would leave it alone. 200 isn't that bad, bine usually run around 195, so 5 degree difference isn't much. As for the fans, they will shut off at around 45mph so they aren't running on the highway.

Re: fan kick on/off temp
Does the ecm automatically turn off the fan at a certain velocity?

Re: fan kick on/off temp
Not sure what you mean by velocity? But it does turn them off at a set speed.

Would replacing thermostat with a lower temp affect anything? I’m thinking of doing 160*.

Re: fan kick on/off temp
If you are running a stock thermostat which is about 195 degrees your low speed fan most likely will never turn off. I'm running a 180 degree stat. My single 16" fan turns on at 210 and off at 195 controlled by the ECM.
I'm running the biggest cross flow radiator in 68 C10 I could fit and in 80 degree weather it takes awhile to get the engine up to the 180 degrees. 200 degrees isn't horrible considering "stock" LS motors in daily drivers run all day everyday around 200 degrees. There are fan controllers out there that will vary the speed of the fan depending on radiator temps. I've never used one. |

Re: fan kick on/off temp
200 - 210 is about right for a stock thermostat. hell on the cars that had electric fans from the factory they don't even turn on until 226. You might see a small gain in power with a 180 stat but if you are just worried about it being too hot, don't.

Re: fan kick on/off temp
I just don't like the fans being on all the time. I think I'm going to have a re tune done closer to stock temps. I'll also have em activate tow mode while they're in there.

Re: fan kick on/off temp
Yeah, those numbers are too low for a stock thermostat, you'll never get the temp that low unless its really cold outside. I usually set them to come on at 215 and go off at 205. Will run a little cooler than stock but fans shouldn't run all the time.

Re: fan kick on/off temp
195 stat....switched 195 on/205 off. 2 - 14 inch fans. In my spot in Illinois, no issues, the thing runs right at 200 degrees (as should be) The old truck will cruise @ 100 mph , all day long & never bust a sweat! longhorn

Re: fan kick on/off temp
Did you mean kick on at 205 and kick off at 195?

Re: fan kick on/off temp
Which temps do you have set?
I bought another pcm because I wanted a spare and had it programmed. I asked for factory temps and they set the fan temps the same as I had them before. I should have been more specific. |

Re: fan kick on/off temp
I run slightly higher fan temps (5 to 10 degrees), I have a 185 degree thermostat...my truck runs 185 degrees all the time and at stop lights on hot days gets to about 200 and fan kicks on. I don't think you would want your t-stat temp higher than your fan setting or it will run nonstop.
