Will Corvette 454/427 exhaust manifolds fit 1968-1970 Chevy C10
I am looking to run cast iron manifolds on a 454 that is going in my 1968 Chevy C10 which is a original 396 bigblock with 400 turbo truck.
Will the 1968-1972 Corvette 454/427 exhaust manifolds fit on these trucks or do they run into really bad interference? I was hoping to buy a set of those Dorman Corvette exhaust manifolds as they are affordable but I am unsure if they would fit. I am not sure what the original 396 exhaust manifolds looked like on 1968 Chevy C10 shortbeds as my original engine has headers currently. I dont know what happened to the manifolds as they were missing when i purchased it and they are probably hard to find anyways and I have not found any reproductions of the truck manifolds. Im pretty sure they reproduce the truck manifolds.
They are very common manifolds that also fit big cars i think, basically same up to the 1980’s, anyway easy to get on the parts forum. The left side corvette manifold fits good. The right side corvette manifold hits the frame and would need a large piece of the lower rail removed to fit. I dont think its practical or safe to make it fit |

As far as factory reproduction exhaust manifolds I can only find one company that wants $500 a set for a set that will fit a 1968 Chevy C10 with bigblock. I was wanting something a little more affordable if I am going cast iron.
Another company only makes the passenger side exhaust manifold but they are reasonable with the price. Anybody have a source? |

I was looking at Corvette exhaust manifolds because it seems they would offer a little better exhaust flow.

They may flow a little better but not worth the frame modification. Just get headers if you want a lot of flow. Or if you want manifolds, as posted above, all passenger cars and trucks used the same basic manifolds. Pay $25 to become a subscribing member and post a want to buy ad. Big block manifolds are NOT hard to find

I have already purchased the Corvette manifolds for my '69 when I swap the 427 in. I am expecting to trim the frame and possibly angle mill the manifold a couple of degrees. It's still off in the future, but I really want the 'vette manifolds and am willing to put the work in.

I have 71 Corvette manifolds and 71 Truck manifolds laying side by side and I can't imagine how the Corvette manifolds could flow any better.
It appears to me the only reason for design difference is a matter of clearance on the right side.

To my eye the Corvette big block manifolds will flow better. They have more volume and the front ports hit the exit sooner and turns are much better streamlined. Looks aren't everything, but GM went to the trouble. And I am going to as well. Will see if that was worth the trouble. LOL

I was thinking the same as the poster who stated if you want better flow buy headers. I don't know too much about BB, but I don't see where there would be all that much difference if you are not putting together a race motor or high output motor. I would be very very VERY cautious about cutting into the frame. That is the base of the truck, and if you are using a big block with any kind of torque you run the risk of twisting up that frame, then you are in a whole lot of trouble. Just my opinion, and I am a weekend warrior at best, so take it for what it is worth. RR

It's just a matter of clearancing a little of the top rail, not major surgery.

I have a 1969 L-36 from a Corvette that has been restored externally and modified internally for my 1969 short bed. The goal is to make it look like it was installed that way from the factory and that includes the big block Corvette manifolds.
For me, the manifolds are an important part of what I am going for. If they won't work without significant mods to the truck, I won't do it. I already have a REALLY expensive set of Sanderson big block iron manifolds, but they are not what I want. And I am willing to put in the time/effort/expense to make this work. Most likely a few degree angle milling and spot facing the bolt heads will provide sufficient clearance. If not, removing 1/4"-3/8" of the upper frame rail will not drastically alter the twisting resistance of the frame.

Yeah definitely not wanting to do any type of grinding or cutting on my frame at all. It is interesting that you would have the same exhaust manifolds on a 1970 Chevelle SS 454 as you would a 1972 Chevy C10 PU with 402. Guess I have a choice to make. Thanks for all the info guys!

The big block Chevrolet is the reason headers have a reputation for increasing HP, because the passenger car/truck exhaust manifolds aren't very good at all. Putting headers and a performance exhaust on an LS-5 454 was probably worth 50hp at the wheels, and on an LS-6 maybe 100.
On a truck, a dual 2 1/2" exhaust is probably not too shabby, but add in a big cam and high rpm and the manifolds are a HUGE power killer.
