Gas pedal help !

Hey guy this is my first truck build . Does anyone have pics of how the gas pedal mounts to the floor of the cab ? Thanks

There are a couple studs with round tops that bolt to the floor and the pedal snaps onto those. Like this:

I cannot for the life of me remove the pedal studs from the floor. The left side stud ball has broken off and the nut part of both studs doesn't really look like a nut anymore.

Is there some trick to removing these things so that I can replace them?

I had trouble getting mine out too. There is probably a ton of rust on the threads. Spray the hell out of them with penetrating oil and let it sit for a day. Put some vice grips on them if you can, and try slowly turning them. I've found alternating from loosening a little bit back tightening a little and so forth helps until they free up. Failing that hit them with some heat but clean off that oil, you don't want fire! Or cut out the old plate which I think is welded to the floor, get or make a new plate, weld or bolt that to the floor and get new studs.

The threads on the studs don't even appear to be visible in order to grease them.

I did saturate the studs hoping some might make it to the threads a few times and let them sit overnight and they're still not budging with vice grips.

I am thinking I might try and cut a deep enough slice in the center of one and see if I can get a flat-head screwdriver in there, but I am not feeling optimistic that it'll turn.

You can also tack weld a nut to the stud, by welding inside the nut.
Some times the heat from the welding will also loosen the rusted threads.

Good idea. But like me he may not have access to a welder

Correct, no access to a welder nor any experience with welding

Grind them off if you don't need them.

If he doesn't have access to a welder or a grinder, he will have to pony up or borrow something. If you just break them off, the carpet will cover the remnants.

I do need them, just trying to replace them with new ones because they're in pretty bad shape, but can't get them off

If you can get any kind of wrench or grips on them try heating them up as hot as you can with a propane torch and let them cool back down a little, then hit them with some penetrating oil. Do this two or three times then try removing them. The heating and cooling will break the rust bond in the threads. If that doesn't work or you can't get a hold of them to turn them you will just have to cut or grind them off flush, drill and tap new holes and screw the new studs in. I don't know if the new studs are long enough to put nuts on the bottom side or not.....

If you have to drill them, try to get as close to center as possible. Try starting small and step drill up to the tap size bit. The tap may clean the old material out. And not mess up the original threads. Or once you get a hole through, it may relieve some of the pressure from the threads. Allowing you to remove it with an easy out. Good luck.

Thanks. All I wanted to do was replace the ball studs and put a gas pedal on it. Now it looks like I'll be pulling up the mat, insulator and soundproofing to do this.
It would really be nice if I could just mount the '71-'72 pedal only on the linkage.

When you drill, use left-handed bits and a reversible drill motor. The bits might catch and turn out the remains of the studs.
