Dolphin Gauges Reviews/Experience

I am thinking about Dolphin Gauges for my 53 Chevy truck (speedo in metric plus four pack for fuel, temp, voltage and oil pressure). I have seen good and bad on these gauges. Any personal experience on here? Also, will 90 ohm Chevy fuel gauge sender work - I am not looking to drop the fuel tank again.

Thanks.

Wade

No personal experience with them but they seem to have a pretty decent rep.

On the fuel gauge you would have to do some research to make sure what you were ordering would work with what you have for a sender.

The sender they have is 90 ohm but finding actual info on their individual gauges is difficult at best.

Re: Dolphin Gauges Reviews/Experience

I've had them in my 54 Chevy car for about 8 years. No problems at all. Sorry I can't answer your question on the sender as I just used the one that came with the gauges.

I used the electric speedo kit for 47-53, fit nice, easy to wire. Uses 1/8 NPT senders so plan for some adapters at minimum. electric speedo works nice and is a "learning" speedo too so thats nice, but it bobs a little at low speeds.

I liked them enough to order them for another truck. my friend used them on his 51 and ordered them again for his 52, but this time he ordered gps speedo.

Re: Dolphin Gauges Reviews/Experience

LOTS of guys use Dolphins in their trucks; if you look at Ebay trucks for sale you'll find the majority have Dolphins - probably because they are so economical. They look much better since they removed the fish logo from the faces.

I have a set of Dolphin quad gauges in my '49 panel truck, but for some reason the temp and oil pressure gauges read low. I know the OP gauge is wrong because I verified it with a mechanical gauge. I changed the OP sending unit but it made no difference. Dolphin tech department said it was because I'd used thread sealant on the senders thus reducing the ground, but running a ground wire directly to the sender made no difference. I haven't heard of anyone else having this problem so apparently I just got a bad gauge. Too late to change it however since the warranty expired while they sat in my shop waiting to be installed.

I have Dolphin gauges installed in my '56, and they work great. Speedo is easy to calibrate, just follow the instructions.

Re: Dolphin Gauges Reviews/Experience

I called this number from here and spoke to the guy directly he even sent me a test gauge for fitment. They do have a 90ohm sender option just have to order the right one as that's what I plan to get

Re: Dolphin Gauges Reviews/Experience

I did not have a good experience with them. I purchased a new set for my 65 build. All 5 gauges seemed to be off. I had excellent grounds so I know that was not the issue. I went with a different Gauge company for my '51 build.
