Speaker location options - '54
What options are there for speaker locations on a '54 chevy pickup? I'd like to put two 6x9's in the cab but not sure where. Under the seat seems like it will muffle the sound too much. I still have the tank behind the seat so it seems a little limited there.
Any ideas> |

If you get a quality set of 6.5 inch speakers and amp them, the kick panels is a great spot if you aim them up toward you a bit. You wouldn't really need rear speakers either.

Re: Speaker location options - '54
There is plenty of room for a 6x9 in each rear corner of the cab My first step father kept his stash or Rainer beer in cab corner on his 54. You could build some boxes to fit each side and then put another speaker in the stock speaker location and done.
Side note I've got small boxes with six inch speakers on each kick panel of my 48. They are too handy as a foot rest though.

Re: Speaker location options - '54
I installed the retro sound panels a few weeks ago. They sound nice even when being placed in the kick panel area. Your legs don't block the sounds and i even installed tweets just above the main speaker. The panels only needed 3/4" removed from the bottom to get them to just fit perfect. I will take a few better pics later today and post them up. I could not install the rear corner speakers as noted in the above post as the seat belt mechanism is located at the cab floor where they go. Already have the sub behind the seat and might one day install some more speakers behind the seat facing directly upward for a more immersive sound.

I have two 6 x 9's behind the seat and a 8" sub under the seat in a custom box. I have two 5" speakers in the stock location in the dash.

Where did you get the brackets for the speakers behind the grill. Do you like it up there or do you think the ones behind the seat would be enough?

This outfit sells everything but 54 https://www.classiccarstereos.com/ch...ers-audio.html I'll show you this for inspiraton to do your own but you would have to be crazy rich with a lack of common sense to buy one. https://www.classicindustries.com/pr...e403598ccb25ec Simply meaning, you look at that, you get a piece of card stock about the right size and stick yourself up under the dash to make some impressions and make your own mount for a pair of the right size speakers at a quality level that suits your needs.

Re: Speaker location options - '54
The classic car stereos have so many options!!! Its crazy. I did put 2 Polk audio 6x9s in today. we tried under the seat and it sounded pretty good but couldnt hear it over freeway speeds. so we moved it to behind the seats right below the corner windows and could hear it better. Instead of vertical were going to do horizontal and at about 25 degree angle. Still will prob put a speaker in the stock location as well.

Re: Speaker location options - '54
I bent some sheet metal as I did not want to weld it to the outer cab wall.
also welded a piece of metal to dash for a pair of 3.5 inch speakers
