Z-Bar Alighnment

I took out what I assume are the 6 cyl engine towers out to replace with V-8 towers ,the 6 cyl. were welded in , I got the towers in (motor still in)and am having a hard time lining up the back drvs bolt and thinking the z bar is holding me up allso noticed the cylinder part from frame to eng is slightly bowed is this normal ? I did get both boltson top in on the pass side back one was hard but managed to get it in. The truck has a 350 in it with headers so its been a real pleasure to work on

Re: Z-Bar Alighnment

The z bar being on pivot balls should have a fair amount of movement..
It allows for engine movement
Can you get some pics?

Re: Z-Bar Alighnment

I loosened all the mounts up and pushed and pulled motor/trans around an got all the bolts to start except the bottom bolt. The bottom hole is no way to mount on crossmember

Re: Z-Bar Alighnment

Is your small block installed in the correct factory rear location? In the '63-'66 trucks the 230/250 I6 and all small blocks mount in the rear location. There is no difference between the I6 and small block engine mounts or frame brackets. They are not like the '67-'72's. Additionally the ballstud threads into the forward location on the block. The tube of the bellcrank for the '63-'66's does have a slight bend in it..

Re: Z-Bar Alighnment

Yes sir got it in the rear holes and nailed down ,now the next dilema is what to do with the bottom tower hole it is about half a hole off the crossmember.
