Trailing Arm Bushings
Yes...I searched until I was cross eyed
I noticed the trailing arms on my '69 frame had floated over against the mounting bracket. I will be installing new bushings but my question is: Should the arms float in the mount? You can see some rust where the arm rubbed the bracket...I pried it back over to the center

Put a couple of washers on the bolt @ the front of the arm (inside of the ears) when you update things. The washers will take up any slack & help keep things centered.

No they shouldn't float.
The rubber has separated from the inner race. The bolts retain the center piece and the movement is internal to the rubber insert. At least when everything is working correctly. After replacement you leave the center bolt loose till their is weight on the wheels. Then it is torqued. That centers the rubber so it doesn't tear. Rick |

The bushings should prevent the arms from rubbing during normal articulation. I would wager that the rubber in your bushings are no longer attached to the center sleeve allowing the arm to push to the side and rub. I am guessing it was a bit noisy.

Thanks for the replies...much appreciated
I will be removing the trailing arms soon and doing shock relocation I also got new U-bolts for the rear mounts I'll let you know what I find out when they come off
