Stepside help please
Working on making sure the bed will fit correctly before paint. I’ve got the assembly manual, but can’t figure out if the ‘tabs’ on the far, back, bed support/ tailgate, sit on the top of the frame rails or somehow wedge inside them. Help me out. Thanks.

Re: Stepside help please
They just sit on top of the frame and your mounting bolts go through them. Also, you may already know this but you have your last rear cross sill too far back. It goes a bit closer to the cab.

Thanks 67. I didn’t know it. I’ll check that out tomorrow. Are you talking about the one closest to the cab?

Re: Stepside help please
The one closest to the rear. Should be forward about 10” or so. It falls about midway between the bed rear sill and the thin stiffener that is only about 1-1-2” wide. Looks like you have the stiffener in about the right spot and the cross sill needs to slide forward until it’s edge holes line up with the bolt holes in your angle strips on the bed sides. The bolt holes should then line up with two in the frame.

Re: Stepside help please
Ok, I see the one closest to the support I took pics of. That’ll definitely free up some room. Thanks again.

Re: Stepside help please
It's hard to tell from the picture, but is your rear bed cross sill open side facing up?? If it is, then it's backwards... that should face down (open side). MAR-K has a good set of instructions for assembling the stepside bed.

Re: Stepside help please
Thanks FB. I think I’ve got that one right. At least the bolt holes line up through the sides. Thanks for the Mar K information.

Re: Stepside help please
I’m really glad I took the time to do this before paint. I’m putting a metal bed in, cutting it down from an 8 ft early 80’s Chevy bed.
Been at it since early December. I guess I’m making decent progress. ( need to quit dropping washers into my engine though. Oil pan removal and re place is a ***** laying on your back) |
