Hooker header help
I watched a video earlier of a 67 rat rod with a set of Hooker Blackheart headers. They fit just like I want mine too, running right beside the frame rails. This truck had a ls 3 however and mine will be a 454. I looked on Hooker website and didn't see any for a big block. Anyone know anything about these and if they do have for big block? It was the most perfect fit I've ever seen.

Re: Hooker header help
I'd be surprised if Hooker didn't make BBC headers. Did you check Jegs and Summit?

Re: Hooker header help
I have Hedmans too, on a 350 in a '71 GMC Jimmy K/1500 4x4. They work good. Fit w/ stock manual 4-speed linkage. And are not overly expensive. Still made in USA.
Jegs wants $638 for painted Hooker headers for a '68 C/10 with 369-454. 502. People who run them say they are higher quality than Hedmans. IDK? At 2 or 3 times the price, they oughta be.

Re: Hooker header help
I have used a set of Doug’s headers from Summit, they fit and worked perfectly no leaks ever! They are ceramic coated and after 2 years still look like new. Buy from Summit, if for any reason you don’t like the product for any reason they have free returns. Headers part number is Dou-d303y. I hope this helps you out. Thanks Chuck

Re: Hooker header help
Thanks. Just looking for some that don't hang below the frame rails.

Quote:
1. Do you want full length headers or are you ok with 3/4 length or shorty headers? 3/4 or shorty headers are going to provide more options to tuck your entire exhaust system between or above the frame rails, especially if they are center-dump shorty headers. 2. Cross member cut-outs are needed to get the entire system between or above the frame rails Hedman makes a quality header and I've heard some folks use big block 4x4 headers to help tuck the system up between frame rails. I used Sanderson 3/4 length Chevy big block truck headers on my 66 Suburban, 454 (Gen VI 7.5L) with cross-member cutouts. Re: Hooker header help
I have a small block with 1 3/4 sbc headers in my 83 stepside. I used hooked supercomps and they only hang about a inch below the frame rails. I had to get a summit racing trans crossmember with raised sections to allow the tubes to pass underneath.
It works fine, and making my exhaust was easy for me with a partial kit I had for a different car to make. |

Re: Hooker header help
I have Hedman hedders for a big block Chevelle on my truck. They are long tubes and tuck inside the frame rails. As mentioned you will need to cut holes in the trailing arm xmember. You will also need an aftermarket trans xmember and shift linkage. Hooker makes em too, one part number is HKR-2455.
