Re: Paper sticks to my truck...

But when I’m drive this it ranges from “ That’s beautiful “ to " offers “to your crazy driving it from the guys who look at the vin and realize it’s a true 138 SS .

Was that "oat" groat?

As for the last post you made, back in those days the GTO/Le Mans/Tempest distinction was also made in the VIN. I had a '65 Tempest convertible that I was restoring in '92, but peace had broken out a year earlier, and I'd lost my defense job. I ended up selling it to make the mortgage. The guy told me he was going to "GTO it". I kept mum. When/if he ever went to sell it, a savvy buyer would have spotted the fake.

Up to 68 the SS Chevelles were easy to spot vin started with 138 . 69 and up you need paperwork to prove its lineage

I at first thought what the hell is a groat? The realised it was all caps .

Had one weird interaction with a 30 something with my truck. I parked it and a guy standing next to his car a few spots away yells out " thumbs up " without actually doing it . Guess he thought he was on his phone

OK, I went and looked at the Poncho database, and it would appear that I had remembered about a '66 Le Mans that I had, not the '65. '65 doesn't appear to indicate "GTO" by the VIN. But it was a Tempest, so he'd still have been caught out. I don't like it when people cheat...

GTO was just an option untill 66 when it became a model if I remember right. The SS was also a trim option till 66 when it became a model with 396 . You could have gotten a 65 SS with a six banger

Yup on the 6. SS was bucket seats, gauges and badges. My dad worked final inspection at the GMAD in Van Nuys for many years. A '70 Camaro SS got written up for low power. It had every available option and a 250 CID six in it, so of course it was weak. It MAY have even had a Powerglide, as they were still available. That would have made it a real dog!
