Re: Lowering a 72 1/2 ton with leafs
There are 3 options for lowering the back of a leaf spring 67-72. First, longer shackle can get you an inch, maybe an inch and a half. New leaf springs can be purchased in 4 or 6 inch arch (maybe 2 as well) or a flip kit.
The flip kit on my 69 dropped the back just over 7 and I used ECE 2 1/2 disc conversion spindles and 2 springs in the front for a 4 1/2 front 7 rear drop. I highly recommend 17 or 18 wheels so you can run more backspace. I switched to 5 lug wheels front and rear. The rear I did by swapping in a 71-72 wider axle housing to better accommodate my wheel/tire combo. Mine is a step side bed.

Re: Lowering a 72 1/2 ton with leafs
Then pick your poison with lowering options. Shackles, which I did on my 70 GMC C2500 Sierra Grande to get less rake and that worked great for that 3/4 ton truck.
If you want less than a 7 drop in the rear then you need to just suck it up and buy springs. IMO, 2 more drop in back than in front works good. So if you want to lower the back 4 with springs then do 2 in the front with springs or 2 1/2 spindles. 5 in the rear would work as well if you stagger your tire height. I run 27 fronts and 29 rears on my 4 1/2- 7 drop.

As far as I know,… DJM is the only company that makes flip kits for the 67-72 leaf spring trucks.
