Gregski, that is awesome! Glad to hear it ran smooth! Here is my analog version of your "all time maximum speed". Never ran Goldie any faster then this. Got kinda spooky.

I will never understand why dingleberries block out their PUBLIC license plates when they list cars for sale for instance, it makes zero sense

Re: My Dusty 71 GMCe Electruck
There are sources to get registered owner and address from the information (will not share). No way to prevent when driving around, but why post on the internet for more specific people to see?

because it is public information and what are the likes that some dude across the globe is going to pay for some subscription service to get my address, then fly out to my house and do what, help me take out the dents on the bed of my beater, lol ??? trust me I have tried to get the addresses of the hit and run accidents I was in and it's not as easily obtained from a license plate as you think, unless you are in law enforcement of some sort the last screen shot below cracks me up, they are basically asking you to provide your personal information so that they can give you your personal information Last edited by Gregski; 09-25-2023 at 01:55 AM. |

Temp is coolant temp just like in a regular vehicle, a lot of the EV components are liquid cooled, so this truck still has a radiator and a cooling loop that goes from the liquid cooled battery charger to the liquid cooled inverter to the liquid cooled motors inside the transmission. The coolant is circulated using a Tesla electric water pump. Oil is what we are using to monitor the transmission fluid that circulates through the automatic transmission and the oil cooler which is integrated into the stock GM radiator just like with a TH350 transmission. Fuel is actually showing us remaining battery capacity at the moment simply based on remaining voltage level. Since the gauge is only a two digit unit we are doing a little trick and simply subtracting 300 volts from the total and just displaying the remaining voltage which ends up almost perfectly coinciding with 0-100 percent charge as the full charge of this battery pack is 398 volts, so it works out great. |

Thanks for explaining it. I get the fuel gauge showing 59 percent. But the temp showing 23 degrees and the oil showing 35 psi. Those readings baffle me. Why so low? |

Re: My Dusty 71 GMCe Electruck
My truck has had a SB 350, A BB 454 and now an LS1. My wife asked me if I finely had the Engine I wanted. I told her “ There’s always Tesla”. LOL

Re: My Dusty 71 GMCe Electruck
So I bought this truck back in 2017 as a Mom & Son project to force myself to spend more time with my newly retired mother. [that's a big lie] the truck was a total POS and her house was closer to the seller's place than my house, so I two wheel UHAUL car trailered it there instead ! but it's the thought that counts
we did wrench on it together and took a ton of pics which then I lost when my SSD failed literally as I was backing stuff up to the Google Destination: Mom's House, where it all begin Distance: 13 miles Terrain: Streets (no freeway) and here she is back where it all begin: (yup took mum around the block in this one, like I have done in all my prior builds) . |

Re: My Dusty 71 GMCe Electruck
It took me 2 weeks, but I finally read your whole build thread. Very impressive. That's a lot of research to figure all that out.
When I went to Votech for autobody in the early 90s there was a Toyota electric truck they had built that stayed in the shop. We had to move it in and out for more room. It was interesting. It was a lot less complicated than yours. I can't remember for sure, but I think it had a bunch of lead acid batteries in the bed. The motor under the hood wasn't very big and it didn't have any cooling. Seemed very simple.

I'm glad you can figure all that out. It's too much to wrap my brain around

if we were to take two 16 year old kids, say twins, and teach them how to drive and maintain a comparable ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) and electric vehicle and after say two years have them switch, I wonder what they would tell us? "What, you have to change the oil twice a year?" "What's SMOG?" "What's a tune up?" "So you have to rev your engine to 5,000 RMP before it makes top horse power and torque, why?" "What's that noise?" "Why does the car shake so violently?" "What do you mean you fuel up when you sleep?" "What do you mean you can drive your car across the desert, where do you charge?" LoL Engines vs Motors The BMW S85 engine develops 507 hp and 384 lb-ft of torque, and revs up to 9,000 RPM, making it the most powerful engine on their list. The Tesla Model S/X Large Drive Unit (LDU) aka motor produces 636 hp and 480 lb-ft of torque and spins up to 15,000 RPM. Last edited by Gregski; 09-27-2023 at 10:06 AM. |
